Not so much what I've done to my Tacoma, more like what I did for her... I cried a little more.

She is still in the shop, the Ford Focus still SUCKS, the Fall topwater striped bass bite is blowing up, and I don't have a truck to tow my boat!!!

Ordered my sliders from Mobtown today. Great to work with looking forward to the defensive perimeter improvement. Doom to the rocks, trees, and offending car doors.

My handle broke last week, 13.5 months after purchasing it. The plastic that makes contact with the metal latch is what broke. It looked fatigued. Poor design if you ask me. I emailed customer service thinking they'd give me the run around because it was out of warranty but surprisingly they offered to send me a free replacement lock. Supposedly they changed the material in that plastic part earlier this year. Guess I'll wait and see once I get the replacement.

Please let us know how the replacement updated handle looks. I've wanted a pop n lock for a while but haven't pulled the trigger due to poor reviews.

Let us know if the part looks any different. They are the only ones who make locks for us Taco fans and I'd like one. But not if it's going to bust from normal use.

Would have purchased one by now if not for all the negative feed back.

fwiw here's my opinion on Pop 'n Lock.

easy to install but noticed from the start that the mechanism does not feel as solid and smooth as OEM. when you lift the handle it feels a little flimsy and doesn't unlock "cleanly" I guess would be a way to describe it. felt like it caught or jammed a little. as the months went by it got worse until every time I opened it I thought I was going to break the handle off because you have to use so much force to get it to open.

about a month ago I opened up the tailgate and removed the lock. totally dismantled it, cleaned it and lubed it up with lithium grease. reinstalled it and glopped a bunch more grease all over it to protect it. it feels a LOT better now, still not as good as OEM but better than it ever has.

I think part of the problem is that it is not a sealed unit and gets a lot of dirt and crap in there. because it is the only one available to us I would recommend it but advise that when installing it make sure to lube it up really well and even try block off some of the gaps to keep dirt and water out. (you'll see what I mean by gaps when you get to install it)

    my 0.02

I did too. Please post how they respond b/c their paperwork specifically says they won't honor warranty if not bought directly from them. I was sad to see that, but installed anyway.

Uhhh - that was fast. thanks.

Used it to pull a dead tree out of the creek behind my house. Very impressed and surprised.
