Hence why I said I needed to do more research. I was in a lot of different driving conditions though from hwy to two lane to city and mountains so I got to experiment a lot in a short time. I have to drive back to Texas this week so I'll get some more info and numbers then. Give it a shot in your truck and see if you experience the same.

Well I'm no rocket surgeon, but I'm starting to think you might have bought a Camry by mistake.

Ha ha! I would post the pic from my iPad but I can't. But seriously, go try it. Put your instant mpg on your dash display.

If correct, this may explain why I was getting what I consider to be poor mpg at 65 mph in 6th at 1675 rpm on my 4WD DCSB TRDOR auto test drive. After my test drive I wondered if 5th would give better mpg which would be 1993 rpm. It would be cool if someone could check this out.

It would also be cool if people would fully specify their truck without us having to dig through profiles and posts or make assumptions. I can't figure out if you are 4WD or not. Only after you said Denver to Silverton could I reasonably assume 4WD.

I agree and that's my fault that I left that out. TRD OR DC.

The thread title is OR mpg; but, for some reason people also buy 2WD ORs and they come in auto or manual. (Luckily, all are V6.) So, assuming everyone in this tread is in the right place we still need to know 4WD or 2WD and Auto or Man. Don't mean to be a DH.

Look forward to your research results.

Edit: Probably good to know tonneau or not, too.

I've got a little over 900 miles on the truck now and this tank has shown 23 Mpg on the display. Prior to this I was in the 21 mpg range...the only change was that I put some higher octane gas in it (by mistake when I grabbed the wrong pump). Trip ODO shows 295 mi with a range of 143. I'd be real happy to get 440 out of the tank.

BTW those with non stock tire size, be sure to correct for the new size...it makes a big difference....can be 1 or more mpg for a slight change (or 265/70/16 to 265/75/16)

So, I have a new hypothesis. Given the information I've gathered, I'm seeing a correlation between MPG and altitude. All you "mile high" Colorado folks seem to be doing much better than the low landers. I'm thinking it might be the thinner air and less overall air resistance, especially at higher speeds (I get 16 @ 80MPH), but these are pretty huge differences. Granted, they did put a car motor in these trucks. Perhaps they just don't like to push air. My's wife's RX350 has basically the same engine and weights almost the same as my OR ironically, and but get about 22 MPG. This might just come down to rolling and wind resistance at different altitudes.

BTW: Altitude here is 210M or 710FT

Another thought...This might be why they spent so much time and effort on the stupid vortex disrupters and aerodynamics on this truck. They had a commodity engine that was proven and tested. Toyota economies/politics resulted in it ending up in a truck (probably not it's original design spec). I, for one, can vouch for the reliability of the engine, I've had in in two of my past cars GS350 and RX350...and now my truck (OR350).

^ Higher elevation always gives our trucks better MPGs due to thinner air. Best MPGs I've gotten on my 2nd Gen have been driving up to 8K ft (I've seen over 22 MPG). I would expect 3rd Gens to be better at those elevations.

Meh, I read stuff like "rev my engine to 5k to merge" and realize that people get bad gas mileage because they drive hard. If you don't think you do, you do. I've driven both sport and OR in city and got 21+ no hwy on 100 mile drives sessions.

But I also beat mpg estimates on my vehicles by 10-15% regularly.

Was getting 16 with 265/75 KO2 @ 35psi cold. This was with ect off and trying to be gentle. Turned ect on and started revving it up at little and jumped the tires to 40 cold. After that I've been getting about 19 per tank. Have just over 1300 miles in the odo now. Also try not to take it over 70 on the highway. When cruising at 75-80 the truck seems to love staying in 4th.

I got 20.9 on the way home from the dealership yesterday. Truck (DCSB TRDO)had 6 miles on it when I started. Have you considered that the trucks having mileage problems may not be moving into the Atkinson Cycle?

2015-10-25 18.33.10.jpg 2015-10-25 18.33.20.jpg This is my ride so far. I think those are respectable numbers. The bottom pic is of the radio, I think the MPG is the overall average. I have a DCSB, AT, TRDOR with a tonneau cover. I picked it up a few weeks ago. Literally two days after I bought it I towed a m101a1 full of camping gear to the Grand Canyon. I have no idea what it weighed in at, but I cruised I-40 at 70-75 in power mode almost the entire way. I've been using her off-road quite a bit too. I keep hearing about the motor needing to break-in before it will get it's best mileage. I didn't read anything about that in the manual. Is there any literature on that?

I posted this in the general mpg thread but since I have an OR I thought I would put it here too.

Just got back from a 900+ mile trip in my 2016 TRD OR DCSB auto. I tracked my mileage and conditions.

    Durango-Abq
