Hey everyone. So starting off i want to say i have a 2014 tacoma base access cab 5 lug. Bought it due to needing a good commuter truck for construction. I live in san luis obispo near the dunes and have started modding my truck. As of now moved up wheels and rims to 265/75/16 and am installing my midlevel travel kit by sway a way and total chaos this coming weekend and hopefully a regear and locker by mid december. With this in mind having an auto 4 cyl am i just fucked for power? I run about 12 psi for the dunes when im out there and without the regear and locker i am just low on power. So the question is: Is it even worth it putting all this money and more into a 4cyl auto such as this and will it be able to perform after the regear and locker? Or should i start from scratch with a bigger engine tacoma. Any responses will help due to figuring out what i should do thanks again guys!image.jpg

First things first, most money you drop into a truck magically evaporates comes resale time no matter the engine choice.

With all the work you intend on doing I think you should seriously considering getting yourself into a V6 Taco.

With your truck stock, how quick was it? My 4cyl was a turd. Even after gears it's not going to be as quick as it was in stock form. I'm with Tacomamike37 on this and would highly consider looking into a V6

oh man 265/75R16's on a 5 lugger.... yeah its gonna be a dog, regearing will help, but the lil 4 cyl just doesnt make tons of power... and the dunes require power big time.

(btw ill be at pismo this weekend with the truck and dirbike, should be fun!)

I suggest torching the 2nd gen. & move on to the unimproved, over priced 3rd gen

It suprising does better in the dunes than i expected even without the correct gears i was just mainly wondering if the locker and gears would make the difference noticeable or just say fuck it and move to the next one

and if you ever decide to sell the truck you will be up against a wall for two reasons: 1) modded trucks are difficult to sell to mainstream buyers from what I have seen, 2) regeared trucks with large tires and a 4 cylinder engine are practically a non starter for those looking for a modded truck.

Like all things modified, they appeal only to someone with a mind for similarly modified trucks.

    A V6 DCSB on 35s is unappealing to someone not wanting a V6 DCSB on 35s. A re-geared 2.7 with 265s is no different.

Modified trucks sell all the time, the only actual truths to them is that you don't get your money back, and someone looking for a stock truck isn't going to buy a modified truck.
