sitting in the truck and pushing the button twice turns on the power so i could browse thru the radio and apps. first of all the whole time the screen between the gauges kept flashing saying to push brake and start the motor and checking engine, kept repeating. am i doing something wrong, what if you want to sit in the truck and listen to the radio while you are waiting for someone does all that crap have to be flashing? too add on you have to have the seat belt on because the chime drives you nuts. there are times i would like to remove the seat belt like parking lots etc. and not hear that chime. i tried the chime disable that works on the 2nd gen no luck. please someone come up with a way to disable the chime.

I don't know on the Tacoma, but on the 4runner with smart key if you shut the vehicle off while in drive then put it in park it leaves just the radio on and nothing else.

The seat belt chime can be turned off by the dealer with Techstream. Go back to your sales person and see if they will do it for nothing. Usually its a one time free deal with the new car purchase.

My dealer refused to turn off the chime. "liability" they claim.

Yeah, you get most stuff on the first press (ACC), but if you need to get power windows you hit twice.

On a similar note, you don't get rear dome light unless your front dome is set to door/on regardless of the rears setting (at least I don't). Will have to check the manual to see if this is correct behavior.

Let us know how that turns out... The dealer disabled it on my 4runner, but I've heard many won't do it. I'm hoping the new dealer I purchased the Tacoma from will do it!

Techstream is the Toyota factory scan tool. Why wont the dealer disable it? Its a factory set option. Should be listed in the owners manual too. Its not like they are cutting wires to disable it. No liability would be on them.

Well if you really are from Maui its only about 5000 miles from me. I dont know why the dealer wont do it, its in the owners manual that you can have it changed at the dealer. We do it occasionally here for customers. Most people just get in a car and drive. They dont notice anything or even know that you can change it.
