Had an 03 quad cab 2wd with the 4.7 v8 and 5 speed manual. 20 to 23 mpg average in the summer. It did all I asked of it hauling motorcycles and kids and trailers etc. Loved that truck except for the rust, got rid of it at 180k miles but the last 30k were tough, was replacing parts every weekend, my wife got jealous.

Sold it to get the 2010 taco v6 6 speed 4x4. Same hp and torque on both trucks, taco weights 1,000 lbs less when empty, Taco seems sporty compared to the giant Dodge. Dodge had more low end torque and was geared right, best I've done on the taco is 19.2 mpg normal is closer to 18.5 (stock sized 245/75 AT3's).

Looked for awhile for a Dakota with the 4.7 and 5 speed but they were all rusty. Happy with the taco for now.

My experience with Chrysler/dodge that I learned the hard way, unfortunately was the quality and workmanship is just not there compared to some other brands, but my last truck was a dodge lifted 8 inches on 37's. I heard it's getting better although haven't been in a new dodge to see for myself & not all that sure it's been long enough for the liability and durability of these new trucks to be tired & tested (like toyotas 4.0 V6 for an example) with that being said, I sure am not putting the cummins in to question, but the transmission and mostly general quality of the interior I am.

Had an 05 cummins 3/4 ton. Built it with 8 inch long arm kit and 40x15.50x18 inch tires, they were wide. After that it was way to big to wheel anywhere and heavy. The transmission failed me twice, and had some other minor issues that were not lift related. I decided to get the most reliable vehicle I can and make it a mild expo rig that I can drive anywhere and not think twice.

I really like the Ram Box built in side boxes. Ingenious.
Enough to make me consider a Ram.

I also dig the Mossy Oak trim package.

Had a 97 ram 1500 4x4 5.2L single cab with 8 ft bed. I miss the room it had both in the cab and in the bed. It had 170000 miles when I traded it in toward purchase of a new taco. Due to kids on the way I needed something with a back seat. I also wanted something more reliable because I was working on the dodge every week just to keep it roadworthy. The rust started to eat the frame and body mounts so it was time to retire it! I found the perfect ram fairly easy to work on though and parts were cheap and easy to get.

Had a new 2006 Big Horn. Front diff blew apart getting out of small patch of mud. Still have all of the pieces. They replaced everything due to a defect.

Traded it in for a 2010 Big Horn that was flawless. No problems ever.

The only reason I switched was because I no longer required a large truck and I wanted the small trail capabilities of the Tacoma. Plus I love the design.

    No "ragrets".

I had a 2004 1500 quad cab Hemi before my Tacoma. I put 150k miles on the Dodge with only a few issues.

The power steering line loosened a few times, common problem with the Ram at the time. Free extended warranty I got took care of it each time.
I had a brake line rot out. The small plastic clip that attached the brake line to the frame collected salt and crud causing the rot. Also had an alternator bearing go.

One reason I got rid of the truck was because the bottom of the tailgate and above the wheel wells started to rot. Another common problem with the Ram. The other reason, the Ram got 13/15 mpg if I was lucky. Getting 19-21 mixed driving in my Tacoma is great. I find it funny when people say "You shouldn't have bought a Tacoma if you wanted good gas mileage".

Over all it was a good truck and I can't complain much about it. I doubt I will ever go back to an "American" truck again though.
