Is there a sawmill anywhere near you ? Sometimes you can poach off cuts or slabs that may be from dry logs

If it's dry it will be ok , worse you will get if it's a bit damp is low heat and higher creosote build up in your chiminey plus extra smoke for the neighbours

I may go cut a few of those pines and split them and but some decent hardwood logs to split and mix. My neighbor that im renting this cottage from brought me over a bunch of construction scraps which was nice but i hope to keep most of whatz left of that to make kindling

If you can't find any seasoned wood, I'd suggest getting some of those biobricks/pellet logs. Burning unseasoned (or worse; green) wood isn't worth it. It doesn't put out much heat, dumps a ton of creosote into your chimney, and is a pain to deal with burning. If you can find any seasoned wood, grab it. But otherwise, you're much better letting it season for a year before you try to toss it on the fire.

Yeah , you might have to buy some seasoned wood or bricks / presto logs for this year

If you're just burning for ambiance, the pressed sawdust logs work great. I burned some our first year in the house because we bought it in October and there was no seasoned wood to be had. They throw great heat, they're just no good for an all-night burn. They don't last, and they don't leave any coals. But for supplemental heat or just something cozy to sit by and look at on a crappy night they're fine. :notsure:

Harden your bark, there are storms on the horizon.
As OZ said, check the sawmills. Otherwise, check the local paper for firewood sales. Green wood is not worth the effort. Also, not sure if it applies, but you could get started now for next year and have a nice pile seasoned and ready.

I hear that for next yr, problem is i dunno if i will be here next yr. this place is rented out for short term rentals during the summer and im told im second in line for next sept when i need the place. Was hoping that if i took down a few trees in late april they would be good for the fall.

And yes wood is secondary since i dont pay the electricity bill here. I just enjoy wood heat. Spent a lot of time in cabins and livex iut of my truck for a summer once and had a fire every night outside rain or shine.

Southeast Ohio. The leaves were really coming on this weekend. In front of the RTV over the ridge is a good size river. One section of the property has a few hundred yards of river frontage complete with boat dock and a sandbar. Southern Ohio is totally different from the northern flatlands. The only landscape I like better (that Ive been to) is out west in the mountains. I was floored by some of the scenery I witnessed.

Absolutely agree. Northwest Ohio is flat and boring!

I love visiting the small hollows of Appalachia though, guess that's the family hill billy coming out in me.

Try fending pallets, they burn pretty good and usually can be had for the taking.

Lol , that was just the source of a minor skirmish between my wife and I because I forgot to wipe down the stove and chimney before lighting it up

    Shots fired!

Reminds me that I have to clean mine though, haha!

That hearth looks like a decent heat sink. Unless it's just a stone facade, but you don't strike me as that sort.
