Is this normal for rust

Hi guyz, first of all I am sorry for 2nd thread with the same issue. But this time I took some pictures. Ive been driving this taco for past 3 weeks now. There are rust spots on Control arms, Brakes etc. I dont even know what most of these parts are called. But I am worried that by the time I am done paying 31K off for this truck, is it going to be all rusted underneath ? What can I do to fix this.

 

Looks pretty normal to me. Mine was worst then that the day I bought it

Yeah...Surface rust and some bumpstop spots...

I wouldn't worry about it...Keep an eye on it- but don't worry too much.

 

The reason I was worried about it since right now everything is in a clear view. I can see all the rust but as with time goes on. Things will get dirty and wont be able to see much of it. Also there is plenty of rust where the spare tire is and seems like its gonna fall in next couple of years lol.

 

Cast iron rusts, but does not flake like sheet steel does. It still degrades eventually, but the process tends to be much, much slower.

And that is why manufacturers are not very worried about preventing rust on those parts.

 

A quick power washer blast under there and you'll be able to clean it up enuf to make sure that you aren't rusting thru or anything like that.

 

Hes right all those parts are not going to rust away. Iron gets a certain amount of surface rust and stops. Sheet metal like the body are what needs to be protected. I have a 91 3/4t suburban that is rusted to shit from winters and salt in NY. Every fender every door is rusted through and through. BUT... everything iron has that surface rust but is solid. Same with my 79 pickup. Dont worry about it... those parts are fine they wont rust away.

 

Thanks guyz that a big relief. I think thats a benefit of having a truck where I can crawl under the truck anytime without a jack and check whats going on.

Damn that truck is clean.................get some dirt on that asap!............and you are @ the beginning stage of the rust to come.................don't worry tho....its a Toyota......

 

Yeah that is pretty much how my truck looks now, if your worried about some of it, you can spray some WD-40 on the rust. Then wipe it off, just make sure NOT to spray any of it on the rubber covers or rubber bushings.

A lot of those areas you just can't stop it from rusting, but it looks like all of it is only surface rust, and some of it is on thick metal areas.

However in the future your frame will start to have some rust issues like all car frames, every year or so you may want to get under the truck and check for rust. If you find some you can sand it down, and get all of it off, then spray some black chassis paint on it.

 

So can feel better more. This is mine after 5 years. Note: Don't worry about the ball joint leaking. Those have been replaced.
