One could mark the current rack. When the dealer says its done, check to see if it is truly a new rack.

It would seem to me it would be pretty stupid for a dealer to state they put in a new rack and didn't. Someone would pay dearly if it happened.

By any change is there another dealer you could go to?

Yes there is another dealer in my city. Are you asking this to because you think I should try to see if a different dealer can pinpoint the issue instead of throwing parts at the problem? At this point it would be pointless since the dealer I took the truck already ordered the parts and is doing the repair work either tomorrow or Saturday.

Let them fix it and move on.Bummer to have a problem on a new vehicle but not un common. If the fix works enjoy it.They are great trucks and you will think the same once this minor problem is fixed. You could have an oil consumption problem like my 2012 impreza and be told 1 quart every 1500 miles is normal

No, it was more in the line of if you are not happy with the service department then check out the other dealer. At this point, replacing the rack seems like a logical solution to the issue.

Could be worse. At least you don't have a leaking head after 200 miles like this 2016.

That, my friend, is a problem you should have gone after with Subaru.

Subaru is saying it's normal if it is less than a quart/1200mi --warranty doesn't apply. I had the same issue with our Forester. Loved the vehicle, but ditched it because Subaru doesn't care about its customers. 25k and 5 quarts between changes. "We don't see your VIN regarding the TSB". Not worth the hassle even if I fought for it since the "fix" doesn't seem to be working for people who got it and it only gets worse over time. Google "Subaru oil consumption" if you want to read about crappy customer care.

Did go after Subaru.Originaly it burned a quart every 600 miles, did oil consumption test and they put new rings in it.After 10,000 miles its now burning a qt every 1500 miles.Thats considered acceptable

My comments were specific to the comment I quoted. I've had dealers tell me they check things all the time and they don't.

I would say the OP should stop adding fluid on his own and take it to the dealer and let them see it low it continually drops. if he keeps filling it up and taking it in there not going to get the gravity of it.

I'd probably hold onto my current ride another few years if it weren't for Subaru's shitty FB series engines. '13 Outback, 1 qt per 3k since the day it came off the lot. 53k on the clock now and no way in hell I'm keeping it past the end of power train warranty. Excessive consumption issues on these engines from new is in the range of 10-15% and there's more than enough anecdotal evidence of these engines eventually needing a short block as a result to scare me off the brand for a while.

Not mine. I have a friend at the dealership. Oil coming out the side of the motor when running (very fast drip). It's been waiting for parts and a new head for a couple weeks.

Just wanted the OP to know that his isn't that serious. At least his engine isn't being torn down to fix.

And for the other derailment on burning oil, Toyota has had the same issue with some models (like the 06-08 RAV4). It's not just a Subaru issue.

With no obvious leaks, I'm gonna say the rubber boots are filling with the oil. Did they check that? Sounds like a bad seal from the supplier.

You really sound like a prissy dude that has someone wipe your ass. Since the cook "cooks" the food I guess the cook has to wipe your ass. Your logic makes no sense. At least that's just me :)

Your analogy is incorrect. It would actually be more like if you order a medium steak from the cook and they send it out raw are you going to take it home and cook it to medium yourself? No you send it back for them to cook right.

Except you don't come on threatening this or that and dissing the restaurant when the cook is doing everything by the book to make it right. The dealer has done everything in the expected order to make it right, but the OP came on ready to throw his truck away and go home. It came off prissy and entitled to me.

Granted, it would be disappointing to have something happen to a new truck, but it is part of a minor system, under warranty, and the dealer investigated it properly and is remedying the issue. It is about handling it like a grown-up.
