I'm trying to sell my Tacoma so I can get a Full-Size truck with a V-8. What is everybody's experience with them? I would want a relatively new one...I like the Silverado (1500 or 2500), Ram (1500 or 2500), Sierra, F-250. I don't like the F-150 and I would not prefer Tundra because the gas mileage doesn't seem as good as the other ones. How does the reliability of these trucks compare to the Tacoma?

Brother had a Dodge 1500 that didn't leave him stranded, but that was a 2008 model. My uncle has a 2006 Silverado that has had anywhere from transmission issues to electrical failures. My dad bought the 2013 FX4 and it is awesome! Considering you don't prefer them, I'd probably go with the dodge.

Hahaha every time I see an F250 I love it so much. If I got one, it would be gas.

There's a big difference between a 1/2 ton and a 3/4 ton. Even tho the mileage is lower a 3/4 works for me, only you can decide.
I've had mostly fords but just did a 2000 mi. tow with a friends 2011 Chevy 2500hd diesel, I loved that truck. Rode better, turned tighter, and handled better than my ford.
Reliability is a toss up, just do your maintenance and hope you got a good one.

Reliability is pretty much equal among all trucks nowadays. Every model has its quirks (Tacoma with rust, Chevy with front end wear, Ford still has rust issues at. Cab corners, Dodge still can't get transmissions right, etc etc) but you simply can't go wrong regardless of all that. Even the worst issues with today's models are super minor compared to 30 years ago.

I love my Sierra 1500 but only you can decide after test driving all.

Beware: a 3/4 ton truck will ride much worse unloaded than a 1/2 ton.

Hahaha I don't call a bent valve at 130,000 miles "super minor". Ford has left a bad taste in my mouth ever since my 2007 F-150 utterly went to shit. First, bad coil packs that the dealership could never figure out. They intitially thought it was #3, so they went ahead and replaced it. Upon picking the truck up, I noticed the same feeling so I declined the "fix". They performed some more testing to conclude that #2 and #6 were shot. Sooo... I paid for the repairs and off I went with the truck. The packs went bad around 100,000. Around 130,000 the bent valve occurred so I opted for the entire replacement instead of just the one side. (Didn't want to run the risk of it happening on the opposite side) Throttle body needed replacement at 145,000. Rear end had to be rebuilt at 165,000. (Whined uncontrollably at speeds above 25mph) Let's not forget the transmission slip that I had to put up with. Five years with over $5,000 in "maintence". As a result, Ford can kiss my ass. :angrygirl:

I get 17 on a good day with the Tacoma, I get 14 with the tundra. Not a big enough difference to really get worked up with.

I think you should test drive one before excluding them from choices.

Just traded my Tacoma in on my Ram. Love it. We've always had mopar in our family and they've always treated us well. I was the first in my family to venture out and buy "foreign" vehicles. I had an accord for a short time and then my Tacoma. I loved my Tacoma, but I got a hell of a deal on my ram + 0% financing so it was an easy switch. It's hard to justify the price for Tacomas when you get so much more truck for the money by switching to a full size.

I have a 2008 sierra denali and love it. I definitely recommend the 6.2L engine. I get about 17 mpg with it. My brother's 2014 ram is nice, but the ride isn't as smooth and the interior feels cheap and bulky. I'm thinking of getting a new truck soon and pretty much decided on a new sierra denali. I just can't decide if I want a 1500 or 2500.
