Another DCSB TRD OR owner running BFG KO2's here. I figured I type up a little report in case anyone was considering these tires. Having just had the tires installed today, I haven't driven many miles yet. During the 30 mile drive to the tire store on the OEM Goodyear tires, I averaged 20.1 MPG. I averaged 18.9 MPG on the ride home with the new tires installed and the old tires in the bed (they weigh about 164 pounds). It's a pretty hilly/mountainous commute, the difference in MPG's didn't seem super significant though.

I haven't tried them out off road other than the 3 mile long hard packed dirt road that I live on. However, I'm really happy with the BFG's so far. They seem just as quiet to me as the OEM Goodyear's. I noticed very little loss in power. For an E rated LT tire in 265/75/16, the ride is much less harsh than I anticipated. I'm running 34 PSI for now, I may mess around with pressure, but 34 PSI seems fine for now.

There's a Toyota pic thread in the auto section on arf.com that I posted in. I normally lurk more than I post, but I've been over there for almost 15 years.

I had a 2012 Ford Raptor prior to this Tacoma. I've wanted a Tacoma since the 1990's, but I always bought something different when it was time for a new vehicle. About this time in 2011, I paid $44,100 for my 2012 Raptor (close to invoice); the Toyota dealer just gave me $43,650 in trade. I figured now was a good time to capitalize on the Raptor's ridiculously high re-sale value. Ford's going to start building the Raptor again for the 2017 MY, so I might switch back to a Raptor if this Tacoma proves to be too small. That said, I really like the Tacoma so far and the re-sale value has always been strong with these trucks.

Regarding tires, I too was hoping to find a C rated LT tire in 265/75/16. My brother is a land surveyor who owns several trucks set up for off road. He loves the off road traction of the Duratrac's, but he says that the C rated Duratrac sidewalls are too easily punctured compared to the BFG KO2's. I actually had to drive over a mile out a pretty nasty trail recently to help him get a punctured Duratrac changed (he had no jack). That said, if you aren't in sharp rocky terrain, the Duratrac's would probably be fine. Both the Duratrac's and KO2's are awesome in snow and great in most off road conditions. The Toyo AT2's are also really nice, although those are a bit less aggressive. You can get those is a C rated LT size which is what I'd go with if I was to buy those. The P rated AT2's are nice, but have less tread depth than the LT's.

Thats an outstanding trade on the raptor, good move. I prefer full size trucks, but since this will be my dd i really need good mpgs. 90% of my driving will be highway, but once a month i take it off road to get to one of my favorite long range shooting locations (stretch out the .308 to 800 yds). I think the c rated duratracs would do fine, even the p rated atiis would probably be good with the benefit of lighter weight to maintain better mpg. Ill likely go with the tracs though anyway. My truck will be in this week so im chomping at the bit already.

I drove another 200+ miles yesterday through a mix of rural 2 lane paved roads and 50 miles of highway. From Centralia PA to my home 98 miles north, I averaged 21.6 MPG. I averaged about 18.1 MPG's on the way down there, but I took a much more scenic and mountainous route traveling there.

It seems like my MPG's range has consistently been between 18 and 21 in the last 300 miles.

The transmission seems to be settling in, but I do wish 6th gear was a bit lower. It's almost unusable unless I'm over 70 MPH on a flat highway. I've been experimenting a bit with transmission settings. I liked leaving the trans in "S" mode in 5th gear. Again, most of my driving is pretty hilly terrain and this setting seems to work well, but just leaving it in normal "drive is also improving as the transmission "learns" my driving style.

I still haven't made time to try these tires off road other than the maze of dirt roads that I live on. True off roading may have to wait several more days.

Let me ask you, did the dealer recalibrate your speedo based on the new tire size?

No. I had the tires installed at a local shop, not at the dealer.

There is a "calibrate" button for new tires in the menu for the Entune headunit. I'm not sure yet if it corrected the speedometer, but I plan on checking against a handheld GPS later tonight.

Assuming OE tires were dead on with the speedometer, 3.3%.

Good news, since having the larger 265/75/16 BFG KO2's installed, the "calibrate new tires" feature in the headunit seems to have corrected my speedometer. While there is still some slight margin for error, I tested the Tacoma digital speedometer and analog/dial speedometer against my handheld Garmin 60CSX GPS. With the Tacoma cruise control set at 59 MPH, all 3 speedometers indicated roughly 59 MPH (Garmin was 59.4, two Tacoma speedo's were 59 MPH).

Gas mileage also seems pretty good considering the hilly terrain and many short trips I've taken.

Sorry for the burry pic's, I was multitasking in the dark.

Believe the calibration feature is only related to the navigation part in the headunit. Previous gens were the same way with the speedometer reading about 2-3mph faster than actual speed with stock tires. Going up a tire size to 265/75R15 or 275/70R17 size seemed to correct the problem. Oddly enough, my 2016 TRD Off Road is about 1-3 MPH SLOWER than actual gps speed. Odometer also seems to read about 2% low (20 mile markers was 19.6mi on the odometer)

Yeah, mine may have been off with the OEM tires and going up a tire size corrected it. I never checked the speedometer against a GPS until after I have the BFG KO2's installed. The good news is that the speedometer seems accurate now with the KO2's installed.

I'll keep an eye on the odometer as I go.
