Truck Stalled on Steep Decline/Low Oil Pressure

Just get a winch, hook up to a line, and giv'r hell. Drive yourself right up the bitach.

Other than tearing off the bumpers, you might also need help getting down lol. I doubt the engine would fail though.

 

It's a 3rd gen. It can climb anything, including 90 degree walls haha

 

A good winch can get you up anything. Getting you up in one piece or down in one piece is a bit of another problem.

 

I'll give her a go boys and let you know if it happens again per the manual warning. I also left it in drive same scenario and hit the on/off switch. Turned the truck off in drive and gave me a charge warning light. But nothin else.

 

I agree. My buddy had a grand Cherokee that shut off on him multiple times while driving, sometimes while on the highway. He finally found out it was a malfunctioning sensor on a shaft (crank or cam). The truck was designed to shut down if the sensor detected a problem. To me that is a horrible design if a truck intentionally shuts down in a instant at any speed. I hope the Tacoma's don't do that.

 

Vehicles that depend on crank position sensor, which I imagine is most,will not run without its signal. The timing and injection systems depend on it. Older powerstrokes had to carry spares, I've actually never even thought about it on the Tacoma, I don't think I've read a thread on here about one failing.

 

On just about any modern engine, the oil pressure lights will come on if the engine stalls. Voltage light usually will too. So the lights likely came on because you stalled, not the other way around.

I could be something as simple as the fuel going away from the pickup in the tank and you lost fuel pressure. If you had a somewhat low fuel level, this would be a pretty likely scenario.

Those were the warnings that came up and stayed up after I stalled.

I tried everything to get the light on. Reved it at multiple steep angles. I consider it a lost cause at this point..

A Low pressure light is going to come on after a stall. That's normal. The ecu hasn't been reset because the ignition hasn't been cycled. There for it displays low pressure because the engine has stalled but the ignition is on. Doesn't seem to be any design flaw in the oil pan either. I could prob go on our lot and put 4 at 30 degrees and not one would "blow up". There are a bunch of things that can stall a motor. Why don't you look at those before you assume it's a design flaw of an oil pan

 

I've been watching this thread nervously since I've already put down my deposit on the third gen. About the stalling by rolling backwards while in drive,the 2013 Ram diesel I just sold to buy my taco had a function that applied the brake on an incline so it could not roll back,I take it the Tacoma doesn't do this????????

 

that feature is hill start assist. And I'm pretty sure the new Tacoma has it.

 

Isnt that for the manual transmission? My ram was an automatic and so is my Tacoma.
