this just happened the other day. Was driving about 35-40 mph and traffic came to a stop. As I looked in my rear view mirror I could see the car behind me trying to brake and swerve out of the way but failed. Just waiting to hear from the other parties insurance to see what's next. Pics don't look as bad as it really is. But also it doesn't look too bad. Been told to make sure my frame is not bent. Looked underneath but doesn't seem like it. Really got me paranoid though. They say once your frame is bent it's not as safe especially if they straighten it out. Guys compared it to a soda can. After you straighten out the soda can its exponentially weaker. some input from you guys would be nice

Got hit on the right side. Can't see it in the pic but the right bedside flares in a bit right behind the tire.

Sorry for your bad luck. Maybe your frame isn't damaged.

There is a huge difference between a slightly tweaked frame and a bent up, wadded up frame. The trick is to get a good shop to make the repairs. Hacks can ruin a frame.

You can take a plumb bob measurment on the left and right side to see if it's bent. Then take a measurement from the front left and then fron right tire from a wall and see if there's a difference. Hope that helps and hope it's not bent.

I see the damage now. It is very superficial/cosmetic looking. You should be good if it drives straight. Good luck bro.

I had a 2001 with the same issue... 50 to 0 very quickly... I did it but the Saab behind me did not. His car was totaled but my extended cab 4x4 looked OK. I drove it home and started to look more closely. I saw that the bed had hit the cab and dented it, the bumper had seen better days and the body weld seams along the door sill had split the paint.

it was a rough collision and my frame was fine. it probably has to do with a straight on hit vs an angled impact. I had a Toyota dealer do the work and it came back good as new. I drove it for another year then got rid of it for other reasons (have a sickness that requires me to buy cars/trucks way to often)....

IMO, get the work done at a respected shop and look over the truck pointing out all that you see.

I would really hope our trucks are tougher than this. That's not much more than a shopping cart ding so I cant imagine any frame damage. You can now use insurance to buy an ARB rear bumper.

You have a nice hitch there. You may want to consider a SpareBumper to help prevent such damage.

Lol no it's not. This was a job site and just snapped the pictures for tw while on break.

I hope so. And if the frame is damaged I would hope they would total it but realistically I don't think they will

    Thanks bro

I have the same sickness as you lol
Thinking about getting the 16' or a tundra Trd pro

Just about the same thing happened to me a couple weeks ago. The gal had plenty of time to react but didn't. I was hit hard enough to spin the truck 180. The insurance estimate is $5600. I wanted to paint "DON'T TEXT AND DRIVE" on the tailgate but it wouldn't stay attached. ;)

Woah. That's way worse then mine. That quote seems a little low for all that damage. did you get it fixed already

Not sure how labor rates are in shops in your locale' but here I'd guess that to be no more than a $2900 to $3200 repair if done with all new parts. (OP's truck)

Not yet, it's scheduled for November 24. My insurance estimated $4600, the gal's insurance estimated $5600. Neither included an alignment though, I will insist on that!

You can pull the bumper enough to get it to stop rubbing the bedside paint off, then you can pull the bedside bottom back out. Just take your time. Looks like all you need is a bumper. You faired pretty good.

Wouldn't have saved him in this instance. And we know by now, anything in the hitch on a tacoma amplifies the damage of a rear end impact
