Rough Ride?

So my truck is only 800 miles old but the ride appears to be a lot rougher than it should. On the highway it is very bouncy and I can see my headlights bounce up and down on the back of cars in front of me. My girl friend even complained. Is this normal?

Additionally, in my 5 speed it seems difficult to smoothly shift into 2nd gear. My dad drove it today and noticed this as well. This is my first new car, should I expect the truck to break in and become smoother all around? My other car was a 90 toyota pickup 4 spd and that shifts smoother than this one. I'd appreciate any input you guys have.

 

In my truck It's smooth (which is the same cab as yours), but a little bouncy. I don't know what it is but I would suggest checking your tire pressure, it should be around 30 PSI cold.

EDIT: As far as your Transmission is concerned, I have heard of some problems guys are having with them, hopefully someone can chime in on that. But it should be broke in by now.

 

A couple of sand tubes in the rear of the bed will do wonders for the jiggly ride. Did in mine. Your shifter will loosen up a bit. At 20K my truck has finally broken in nicely, and/or I am just getting used to it. YMMV

 

check your tp, and i don't know if this would help but make sure your tires are balanced

 

The bouncing issue does not seem normal. If mine did it or does it, I have not noticed it.
As to the shifting, mine has broken in over time and/or, I have gotten used to it. There have been some previous threads concerning the shifting. By the way, I have almost 16,000 miles on mine.

 

Just remember you got a truck not a caddy. But the shifting into second thing is tough but i finally got it after a year of driving mine. Its just the first gear is so low that it makes it difficult to smoothly shift into second. Try accelerating slowly from first, then stepping on it after you shift into second, it helps with the rough shifting

 

Well I went from driving a truck to driving this truck, so I am not expecting this thing to drive like a Cadillac, I just don't think this is normal. I guess i will give it some time and see if it gets better. Would Billistien 5100's give a better ride, or are those even stiffer?

 

The ride is stiff, and that was made that way. If you wanted the typical american boat, you should have bought a cadillac. For the second gear shifting, I find it kinda clunky also, but after reading that about everyone has this ''clunk'' when shifting from first to second, I conclude that must have been made that way. It's a truck, so I don't care.
