    Hi!
Does any one know if the SD card in the nav unit can be upgraded with topo maps? I did a quick search and could not find anything.

Hmm...I had never wondered this until now. I run a topo/GPS app on my phone for work and play 5 days a week. I have been trying to figure out with Entune if I can screen mirror to the 16 head unit. I think the answer is no on my inquiry but I never thought about loading maps via SD cards. I'll be watching this thread for an answer.

The manual states 'do not edit or delete the map data on the SD card, doing so may deactivate the Navigation app'. My dealer said any map updates will be done by the dealer when you bring your vehicle in for service.

Does the dealer have anything so we can get topo maps?
    Let me guess...
    Maybe in the 4th gen!

My dealer also told me to NEVER increase my tire size because it will break the 4 wheels drive system...

Do you know what format the maps are in? Take the card out and put it in your computer and look. I haven't had hands on with the newer units long enough to look. Are you able to add applications to the unit? It has that phone linking application in the unit right? You could run Backcountry Navigator (or garmin, or any other application) on it through the head unit using your device.

I hope you are right. I have not figured it out however. Does anyone else know if you can display any app on your phone on the head unit.

I believe with that, you should be able to. I know on Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer, etc. they have a similar setup where you are able to do the same. Everyone calls it something different.

I think that is apps included only in the Entune suite of apps. I just read through the manual and that is the impression I got. I could be wrong though.

Ah, Is the 2016 not an Entune device? Just think, one day not far from now, the whole area where the climate controls and radio are will all be a digital screen, programmable to our liking.

Why would anyone expect the map updates to be free. Who should pay for them other than the end user? Seems to me we have more than a few closet socialists floating about. I have to pay and expected to have to pay for Garmin map updates. The updates cost money to be kept current and if I get a service I expect to pay for it.

I don't mind paying for it. However, my only concern lies with where you have to purchase them from and how much they'll try to generate profit from the updates.

I doubt anyone would have a problem paying a fair price for updates. I could buy two new Garmin GPS units (with lifetime map updates) for what Toyota wants for just an update.

What is topo? Why do you want that over the stock one?
