    Not true, you can get the or with manual but it doesn't come with crawl control

    The auto in the 2nd gen was made by Aisin-Warner. I don't think I've ever heard of a failure that wasn't caused by outright abuse.

    I stand corrected, I was told this earlier this week when looking at a TRD sport that was 6sp. I just went to the Toyota.com and built an OffRoad with manual. My Bad!

    With regard to downshifting on an incline, have you noticed this happening more as you put on more miles? I only have 200 miles on mine, but it seems very reluctant to downshift on inclines.

    Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
    Very reliable transmissions, I've never heard of one actually failing under normal driving and service intervals. A guy on FB had a 2003 double cab with 624k original miles he put on the transmission and engine if that says anything.
