What kind of deal did you get buying your Tacoma?

I'm looking for a double cab long bed. Noticing not as many to choose from and they're not On the market for long.
Wondering how low I can go on my offer when trying to buy from the dealerships?
Focusing in on 2012, 2013 4x4 with low miles.
Anyone get a deal like 5, 10% less or paid asking price?

My dealer didn't budge much. I don't think there's another vehicle that sits unsold for less time than a Tacoma. Dealers know this. I don't put much faith in those who say they got a killer deal on a new Tacoma. It's the internet and pride probably causes people to stretch the truth. If they give you a good deal off the sticker price, they get you on trade in or financing.

I knew what I wanted, the dealer had exactly that. I bought it.

Because the dealership is owned by a family friend I got a reasonable deal... I would say about 5% off sticker price but I can't remember for sure... Basically not a lot off on the truck but the rims and tires I purchased with it were discounted below what I could get for a price at a tire shop, so that was nice. Still could gave got an F-150 for about the same price similarly spec'd if that was what I had wanted

Granted this was 18 months ago, but I paid right at $32k for my DCSB Sport Manual 4x4. The flip side was the dealer gave me almost retail on my trade in, which I needed to break even and wash my hands of the POS Chevy that ate a cam shaft at 66k. I also bought the Toyota 84 month/100k warranty for something like $1200 or $1300.

18 months into it and my truck is worth more than I owe. Never would have happened with the Chevy. Of course it doesn't matter because I'm driving this truck til the wheels fall off.

NEVER pay asking price. Dealers mark up at least 15% above what they gave for it. Pick an amount that you want to pay or a little lower and stick to your guns. When I bought my 2009 the dealer tried to talk me in to a 2008 I made them a offer at 90% for asking price. The sales guy and the manager started to whine about what they paid for it. I said not my problem save your sob stories for someone else. I ended up buying new. Back then with a rare $1000 rebate there was no way I was buying used.

My sticker was $33,700. KBB showed my 2003 Silverado Z71 as $6300 for a trade in value. 2 months ago I got the Dealership to give me $7800 trade in, and I got 2.24% financing from my credit union - for my 2015 Black AC/TRD/OR 4X4/V6-Auto with add-on goodies. I am still enjoying the truck and ecstatic with my deal.

My dealer didn't budge much, but it's hard to tell. They dropped the price about 15% from asking price, but I had a trade too.

Buying used it's a little more difficult to know how much money the dealer actually has in the ride. I can tell you (as a previous car sales cat) used cars provide much more profit to dealerships than new cars.

Do you have access to a N.A.D.A. book? Might see if your local library has one and just go through the base, adds and deducts and see what you come up with and work from that number...???

With low rates and Tacoma high resale value it was very hard for me to justify buying anything but new. (Hell I came from a 03 accord with 170k and got 5k for it.) I walked in 2 days before end of month and gave them number and waited till they said yes. They did have about 12 new Tacomas there and no other customers in the building.

Op get your own financing. Dealers usually look at it as an all cash deal and are willing negotiate more. If you do finance through Toyota the finance guy has .25% coupons off their rates. They have so many per month to use so ask and you may receive.

The best deal out there is the one you're comfortable with. There was a guy who just bought an 07 for 22k with 112k.

What he said. I would highly recommend at least glancing at new. With the extremely low depreciation rate, it means that the price you're going to pay for a late-model with low miles is going to not be very different at all for just buying a new '15 (there are about 1k new '15s left around the country) or a new '16.

Finance-wise, my credit union destroyed Toyota finance for some reason, so be sure and shop around.

Your best tool is AutoTrader.com (or like websites), set your search at 250 miles, enter in your parameters, and see all the prices around you. Go in there knowing your local / statewide averages for the vehicle you're looking for, and stick to your guns. If they don't come down to your (reasonable) asking price, then just say you're going to XXXX dealer to see if they'll meet your asking price. Your best asset is just knowledge of the car market in your region.

    Best of luck!

Yep, I'm now really understanding what yall mean about going ahead with a new vehicle purchase instead of used. Tacomas have an awesome resale value compared to other makes.
Thanks for all the replies so far. I've looked at many trucks online and prices for DC Lb 4x4 low miles are pricey only few grand less than new.

Now I see I was lucky with the deal I got when I purchased my 4 banger access 4x4 with 27 kmiles certified used with mega warranty this Just 4 years ago. Of course this configuration not as in demand as DC.
Now I know at this point I would at least want 2012 or better cause of interior looks /changes.
The double cab market is hot hot hot in California.
Least expensive that I would consider was a 09 DC LB 4x4 80k miles 25500$ Then I looked at stickers at local dealer of new tacoma's and started to compare.
    2013 DC lb 40k miles for 31000 to 33k or buy new 2016 sr5 4x4 DC lb for 35k?
I'm going to make offer on 2016 10% less on sr5 DC LB at local dealer and see what happens and report back to y'all. Hopefully they will at least counter with 5% off.
My tax to pay on a vehicle purchase is 9% here in Northern California.
    So wish me luck!

Good luck with your purchase. Try to stack the cards in your favor. Do your homework on pricing and get your own financing. Dealer could only get me 4.25% my credit union got me 1.49.

OP. I concur with folks that buying Tacoma's new is a better value (most of the time). I am a finance guy that would normally NEVER tell anyone to buy new except when I came across the Tacoma. I priced out so many used and then compared them to new ones and it was easy to buy new.

Just the other day I got an email from Autotrader that a seller was selling a used 2015 non-TRD but 4x4 with 18k miles on it for $29,950. I bought a brand new 2015 TRD Off Road with zero miles for $31,200.

That being said, it does beg the question: If most are being told to buy new Tacomas vs. Used, you would think that would cause the Used Tacoma market to fall but it hasn't yet; therefore, there must be buyers out there for used.

X2. Toyota will try to lure you into their financing with rebate incentives, but my credit union beat the hell out of their rates.

Cars.com, search within 250 miles, and use those prices as leverage. If they don't meet a reasonable price, just say you'll go try somewhere else, and show them the ad on your phone. I did that for my past two vehicle purchases (my Taco and my wife's car) - you can't argue with hard numbers right in front of them.

I think I already chimed in, but I definitely second your decision to take a look at new ones. Price-wise, it just makes sense.

I just bought a 2013 with 14k on the odometer. DC OR, came with nfab side steps and tonneau cover. They had it listed at $29,900 and it was on the market for about 90 days. They lowered to 27,900. I called and it was out on a test drive(maybe their ploy to get me in there, it worked). I walked out with it. I justified it because it was a '13 and I had been looking at 05-10's trying to stay close to 20k. This had the backup camera and touch screen radio. That and coupled with the low miles and still factory warranty left made me spend a few more $$. But I have also been looking for a truck like this for about 4 years and only really getting serious in the last 18 months. I am happy with my purchase.

As been mentioned it was worth it price-wise to take a gander. After all, the first year of paying the loan should have you ahead on it, which is very rare for a new, newish vehicle.

Nice purchase and seemed like you got a good value. I had one dealer who had a 2015 DCSB OR with 1k miles on it selling for $34k. I knew I had my deal at $31,200 so I called this dealer trying to get that price down around 29k. He told me he wouldn't lose my business over a few hundred but he wasn't going to drop it a grand and I should take the deal I currently have. Lo and behold about 2-3 weeks later he had already dropped it a grand so some are being a bit too stubborn in my book. There are some deals on used you can get I believe. Just need to be patient.

I totally agree. You can find some great used deals, and it looks like you did - congrats on the new truck!

@OP we're just speaking in generalities around these parts. Buying a truck in your area is going to come down to just that - what's in your area, and what dealers are willing to do.

My vote is on a new '15 and get a killer deal, but I'm bias b/c that's what I just did. :)

I have no idea what dealer paid for the used 2014 that I purchased, but according to NADA and KBB I got it for 4.5k less than expected. Cargurus is an excellent tool for car shopping.

They had a '14 exact everything I just bought but with 38k on the odometer and they are asking $32,999. So I jumped hard when the '13 i bought came down to $27,900. I knew they were pretty close to bottom dollar and trying to move it. Had I waited, I doubt it would have been there by the weekend.

Edit: the '14 was at a different dealer.
