Low Idle and Transmission issue

Hey all recently purchased a 2016 OR 4X4 auto and stopping at lights engine idles around 500-600 rpm. Is this normal cause everytime I'm at a light and I jerk the steering wheel a little bit the Idle surges and goes back down....Also on a cold start I let the truck warm up for about 3-5 minutes but when I put it in drive it takes a couple seconds to get into gear when I switch to D. If I switch from P to D and put my foot immediately on accel pedal it jerks....is it just me or are these normal cause its freaking me out

 

I have definitely noticed the lurching and delayed response when shifting into Drive from park. I wouldn't call that normal though.

 

Well that's good to hear that I'm not the only one but still sucks I'm considering to take it to dealer but I wouldn't b able to recreate the lurching after driving it

Just reading this now and beginning to wonder if dealerships are " NOT " checking the transmission fluid on the 3rd gen 2016,s ????
I might be jumping the gun here but this is at least 10 complaints of the same issue on the new 2016 .
We already know they were not checking the fluid on the 2nd gen before they sent you on your way with your brand new truck .
It was hit or miss . Some guys reported up to 2 quarts low , other members said the trans fluid was fine. Either way , get it checked cuz it will sting you down the road once you are off warranty
I am fairly certain the 2016 transmission uses squak control . Squak control selects 2nd gear on your initial shift into drive rather than first gear to eliminate that jerky feeling , but your complaints are more like a low fluid condition .
Do us all a favor . Call the dealer and ask if they checked the fluid in the auto before they sold you the truck .
Then book an appointment with your complaint and get the fluid checked for proper level .

Anyway to check fluid level on transmission without taking to dealer? Not sure if its a sealed tranny haven't looked at it yet or the manual

 

When we do PDS's (PDI) the tranny level is never check. The procedure requires the use of the techstream and about a half hour of time. We are only allowed about 2 hours to PDS a new vehicle and this includes installing a block heater (Canada) and the test drive. Most would be amazed at the amount of work in doing a proper PDS.

There you go folks . Judging from Ruggybuggy,s post above , when you leave the dealership , the fluid level is " NOT " checked
All the guys that frequent TW , get ready for the new posters complaining about delayed engagement !!!!!

OK, so I'm not the only one that this has happened to. For mine it seems to only do it first thing in the morning before things get warmed up.

 

Yup , thats a classic " Low on transmission fluid condition / symptom "
We have been down this road with the 2nd gen . People continue to drive them with low fluid . Eventually , something is going to break or wear out . The trans works fine once everything expands but you remove years of mileage off the transmission when you drive it with low fluid

 

Yup me to hopefully it is just low fluid I won't be able to go to dealership till next weekend but if someone else does before I do please update if conditions are still same or worse or got better

 

Take it back and let them check the fluid level.

Please don't try checking this yourself. If you monkey with it you may be SOL for warranty coverage.

5-600 rpm for idle is good on gas use. That's great. When you jerk the wheel, the steering system is loaded and the power steering pump creates drag on the engine system. The idle drops due to the drag and throttle is opened to increase rpm. That is normal when you jerk the wheel while not moving. Stop jerking the wheel when you aren't moving.

 

Is this transmission a sealed one like the 2nd gen's 4.0?

 

Its not a sealed transmission , thats what Toyota likes to call them , they are completely repairable , it has no filler tube and no dipstick just like the 2nd gen

I dont know why they decided to use the word " sealed " to describe a transmission without a filler tube . It makes everyone think the transmissions never need servicing or repair ????

 

that's not what we think. A sealed transmission is one that you cannot check with a dipstick

 

You are one of the only people I know who think like this hehehehe . Most TW members and newcomers beleive the trans never needs to be touched . Much the same with general motors and their transmission with no filler tube

 

I give it at least 2-3 seconds but when I hit the accel the engine revs the truck barely move then jerks into gear and starts going
