I would love 30 mpg. The torque is only 40 pounds less than the Ford Ecoboost, so I'd be down for something similar. I just wished Toyota would configure a Tacoma with similar economics.

Now did I mention what engine in the GMC is was referring to? First clue for you was "ramp up the rpm", hence the gas v6. Besides the diesel was not out for the 2015's. Mixing apples and oranges.

I know about the 4.0. Sold my 06 a month ago. Was a good truck and engine.

You're the one that brought the V6 into the picture. We've been discussing the diesel the entire time. Don't really care to be honest, but want to make that clear.

I think the tranny in it sucks, like most toyotas AT trans, but I really don't think it lacks power.

    The better coast
If you want the mpg of a Coload go buy one instead of a 2016.

Don't be that customer who buys things they initially don't like going into the purchase then complain about them what they knew they wouldn't like.

Buy a different truck if you don't like what Toyota offers.

    Then go buy the diesel.

This is America. We want the power and towing capacity of a ram 3500 with the size of a first Gen on the outside and size of a suburban on the inside.

The 3rd Gen Tacoma is a more capable truck than the 2nd Gen. I would call that higher performance.

Noone is forcing you to go spend your money on a tacoma. Just go somewhere else with your money.

By buying a truck you are unsatisfied with, you are telling Toyota "keep everything the same because the customers are buying the up".

Complaining about a truck, and still buying it tells Toyota "it must not be a big deal because they still just spent 35k on a new truck, let's keep everything the same because we are still selling them"

Not buying a truck you don't like? Toyota thinks "we are down on our profits. What can we change to get interest back in the tacoma"

    Remember....With everything money talks.

But I'm thinking for the average Joe who isn't a speed demon the 3.5 will be just fine.

Gotta love these new 3rd gen members. I have the newest and thus I know more and my truck is better even though Im new to tacoma and new to the forum and my truck is stock and I have no mechanical know how or knowledge.

And why do you make that assumption. I used to drive a second gen btw, 2008 silver dc sport.

Its brand new of course it's stock, and anybody who thinks they have "mechanical know how" is arrogant.

This seems like a trend with manufacturers, put a smaller engine in, in this case not much smaller, which makes 'great' in the city but once you get on the highway the mileage suffers because 6th gear is too high and the vehicle is constantly down shifting. My 2014 AWD Santa Fe with the 2.0 turbo was the same, it would get 20mpg in the city but 15mpg on the highway at anything above 65mph.

I had my Tacoma on the same stretch of highway and was averaging 21mpg at 70mph with a shell, our camping gear, and four mountain bikes on our North Shore bike rack. The Santa Fe was loaded up with the same gear.

I guess the difference is that I was able to keep my truck in 5th gear (6MT) thus always being in a good power band and not needing to give a whole lot more gas to keep up the pace. Whereas my Santa Fe at times would shift down to 4th, then back into 5th, then back into 6th, then down to 5th again. It was a nightmare.

I hate to be that guy, but I would never buy a new diesel. Between the DPF and the SCR system there are too many sensored systems that will put an engine into derate or never ending regen...leaving you stranded. They work okay if you work them hard over the road but for stop and go recreational usage the DPF and SCR systems never get hot enough to operate correctly. I used to be a big diesel believer but the newer emissions systems are just too problematic yet.

The bland grey( I know its not the only but still is the most common) interior the center console and wheel (pre 2010). The shifter, gauges, buttons handles fabric designs all look incredibly dated if you compare them with cars and trucks from the same years. It was one of the bigger complaints of the second gen, read any review, CS, car and driver etc..... I like how all you pointed out in my post was the comment about the interior

I like the interior of the new Tacoma. However, the exterior looks weird. The cab section is the exact same cab section as the 2nd Gen. But the rest changed. So it looks like 2 different trucks that were pieced together in sections.

I learned soon after buying mine that the Atkinson cycle engine drives differently than a regular engine, and it's not something you will pick up on a test drive. I learned that even in the mountains keeping the rpm between 1,800 and 2,500 provided ample torque and acceleration. The difference is that the engine sounds like it wants to bogg down and you want to give it gas or downshift but you don't need to. You have to retrain your brain.
