Loved my 07 trd 6speed but this 3.5 is way better.

Yes you have to either floor it or just leave it in ect mode to get some acceleration but once you know that- it's definitely faster than the 4.0.

With ect engaged it shifts better for performance. Without it the rpms stay way low and it gets better gas mileage- 18mpg combined vs 14mpg from my experience with both.

Have you tried using the "s" mode more. We have the six speed in a Toyota SUV and it responds better by keeping it out of 6 at speeds below 50 on level ground or higher with hills. Around town, we keep it in 4.
If you experiment some, it doesn't hurt the economy at all but keeps it from shifting too much. All cars with so many gears have to be treated this way. Just leaving any six speed in D and it will drive you crazy.....it's not the motor only.

Got at least one happy man in a 16, this coming from a guy who drove a 2001 till I got the 3d gen, all good!!!! Still have the old baby... The new one is supposed to be different!!!! I need to see the 0 to 60 better then 8.1 to believe it's faster. My 4.0 doesn't feel especially quick and it's under 8 seconds

They just need to offer an upgraded motor/trans for the trucks.

278 hp is ok for some people. What Toyota should do, is have an optional upgraded motor available for people who haul more than a bed full of tampons, and offroad, or need a little more power. Both 2nd and 3rd gen trucks are under powered. Plenty of other manufacturers offer upgraded engines. Toyota is the only manufacturer I know of that makes trucks built to order, it wouldn't be a big deal to them to offer another engine they can make money off of.

Doesn't mean it doesn't look antiquated

    Yup

Have you owned any other trucks besides Toyota?

Yeah I figured it was because it was always in boost on the highway but fuck me, at one point the read out said it was getting 13mpg. I haven't driven the new Tacoma so I can't speak for the power delivery or lack there off which people are talking about but I scratched my head when I discovered Toyota was putting a smaller engine in the truck, even if it does have more hp and torque.

Its an opinion, yours will differ. But you can't deny that it was dated compared to it's competitors.

They should just hire some VW engineers to show them how to get 300 hp and 30 mpg. Hell...it will be what 10 years before anyone catches on.

So true. When I had my 2012 GTI with 6 MT I would always try to keep it in the highest gear possible in the city just to see how much MPG I could squeeze out of it. My wife would drive it around in third gear in the city and would get better mileage then I would. Now with my Tacoma unless I'm north of 40mph I keep it in 3rd gear when running around in the city.

Do you no what plagiarize means? All I did was reference articles. The drab array of ugly hard plastics and and design dated patterns makes it looks like its from the 90's. You can't really prove something like that anyway but It's where the second gen lacked and many people agree with me. You seem to be stuck on the 90s statement. That was more of a reference for its antiquated looks, but you took it to be very literal.

Oh and the tacomas reliability and capability made it survive the 90's. Have you heard of the frontier?
