blue led headlights, 285/75/16 grabber AT2's, custom pedals, custom shifter, flowmaster 40 series muffler, bedlinered fender flares, 2.5" lift kit via shackles and spacers, custom exhaust out the back, chrome exhaust tip, and Herculined bed, Weathertech floormats, Cabelas Trail Gear Camo Seat Covers ... Nice thing was I got the truck for $4000
I installed a 2.5 inch lift a little while back and my kit didn't come with a brake proportioning kit (or something like that), what is this and why does it matter. My truck seems to stop fine without it, is it really needed

A brake proportioning valve has nothing to do with lifting your truck. If you swap master cylinders, convert to rear disc brakes, go with larger calipers, etc., and you find that the rear brakes tend to lock up before the front brakes, a proportioning valve would help restrict the amount of fluid and pressure being sent to the rear brakes related to the front brakes.

Sounds like you only lifted the truck and didn't mess with the brake system so you're fine.

His first gen has a load sensing valve on the rear brake. Also called a Brake Proportioning Valve.

OP....How much lift did you put in the rear?

You can get a new one to accomodate the lift you have here.

    FYI...This is what he needs:

You got a drill & hacksaw?

Find some scrap alluminum or steal and make your own.

When I owned my 96 tacoma, I used to make these things and sell them.

Your front brakes will wear faster, as the rear brakes are not getting the power they need to aid in stopping. The BPV is designed, so that when a load is placed in the truck (lowering the rear), more braking power is given to the rear to aid stopping. WHen lifting, more power is taken away from the rear brakes. You need the bracket to get the braking back to normal distribution.

Without one, as your truck goes up, your rear brakes work less when applied. $19.95 includes metric hardware & USPS priority shipping.

I know, but they're closed today. :) plus that's my adjustable one w/multiple holes, $10.99 + shipping gets you this one....theirs looks pretty thin too, mine's Beefed with metric hardware so you only have to take 1 socket & 1 wrench under there.
