Will my Leer XL100 Cap from a 2nd generation fit on a 3rd generation Tacoma; has the box change in dimensions, will the air dam on the 3rd gen tailgate effect the fit?

I'm trying to decide on what to buy a new 2015 or 2016; and being able to use my Leer is a factor in the decision...

It will work but it will sit higher than the roof line more than likely. Might look funny.

At a minimum, the tailgate is a different shape (thicker with a built-in spoiler). I doubt a 2nd gen cap is going to work with the 3rd gen without modification.

The bed is different. I have a SnugTop SL2 on order. The 2016 is a different mold and they are telling me it should be available in a few weeks.

Contact a leer cap dealer or leer directly.
Unless you installer your own.Go to the installer of your present cap and see if there are modifications that can be done. Other then the tail gate, my cap just sits on the sides and attaches with clamps to the rails with adapters. Just take a tape measure and check her out. I would tell the dealer the sale is contingent upon it fitting too. "Nut flush" seems to have the final answer though.

If you could sell the cap to a gazillion potential buyers, maybe it doesn't have to be.

If I was you I'd take your current truck to the dealer. Measure first, and if it measures out ask if you could test-mount the cap. You can probably set it on the other truck and see immediately, no need to clamp it, then move it back to your truck. Maybe 30 minutes of futzing at max - and it's definitive, no hearsay, no wondering.

If it's not important enough to do that, then it's not really a major factor in your decision, so forget it and worry about the things that do matter.
