Hi everyone just wanted to say hi . I have a concern I have a 2011 Tacoma off road and I have asked other Toyota owners and says it's normal but I want to ask the forum ok here it goes. When I stop at a stop light usually for a while I am stopped while I apply the brake pedal,I feel a jerk like a little tap in the back enough to move me . People have said its ok its just the brake system resetting???? And the other Toyota owners say they feel the same or similar?? What do you think? What can it be? Thanks in advance.

It's not the brakes resetting, what ever that's suppose to mean. It could be what's called axle wrap. It could be the slip yoke binding. It could also be ac engaging/disengaging. For the most part it is common on these trucks. Both the 11 and 13 I've had did it. With my 11 it was the slip yoke binding. With my 13 I think it's axle wrap.

It's the AC cycling on mine that does it. My AC is almost always on.

I have had my 15 for about two months and 5000 miles. I have felt it a few times. Basically, when completely stopped you feel a small bump/jerk almost like getting rear ended slightly.

My '10 F150 had the same thing and it was the slip yoke. Every 10000 miles i would have to grease it.

I am new to Tacoma's and am in a steep learning curve still. I will be crawling underneath and checking it out soon. Looking forward for the SME's to chime in.

Yours sounds like axle wrap or slip yoke. The slip yoke on these trucks is sealed. Only way to lube it is to remove the rubber boot and drop the shaft. It seems some of them were under lubed from the factory. No zerks.

It's not a big deal. It's just a minor annoyance. If it's axle wrap it can be remedied by beefing up the rear leaf springs. If it's the slip yoke it just needs lubed.

Don't think it's axle warp but???

My truck has less than 10K miles and does the same thing. It idle at less than 1000 at a stop ( closer to 500), and I do get that gerk. I just make sure that the brake pedal is fully activated. I was behind a car at full stop and it jerk, I can tell you that brake pedal almost went throught the floor. Only problem is I can't explain it???

To help explain axle wrap. This is what the spring should normally look like.

During braking the rear leaf spring can start to rotate creating pressure on the drive train. Looking like this.
Because that pressure is on the drivetrain it causes the truck to lurch forward.

The slip yoke is part of the drive shaft that has a splined shaft that slides back and forth within the other section of drive shaft. If there isn't enough grease on the splines it binds up creating pressure once again on the drive train. Once that pressure is released it causes the truck to lurch.

The ac engaging and disengaging uses a clutching system that uses the engine's power to rotate the ac compressor. When it turns on you're the engine is compensating for loss of power, which causes the truck to lurch.

How difficult is it to grease the slip yoke? (Link to a breakdown) My Prerunner does the same thing about the lurch, but it seems to only do it whenever I lightly let of the gas. Should I even bother trying to remedy the issue? It doesn't bother me that much considering I'm used to it by now.

Yes I've been looking for an explanation on this. The dealership wouldn't hardly explain it to me other than it would cost me over a grand to fix.. I'm curious as to how hard it would be to fix the yoke as well. Time to research more

It's dangerous to jerk while driving, be safe.

    Are floor mats a mod?
If it happens about 5-10 seconds after you stop, it's actually the trans shifting into 1st. Also, you should rename the thread cuz.... Yeah....
