    FP2 cancelled

I feel sorry for all the people that spent $1000's of dollars a year ahead of time to go to the race

I love her assumption that Harper will be chumping around for oil companies lol.

I don't see Trudeau touching the amending the Canada act. It won't fly.

I think she will be sorely disappointed. I'll be honest, how good is it for Canada if First Nations receive full "Nation state" rights? I'm not sure it's good for either side.

It's easy to say you will keep in touch with people on the ground. To do so you often form a committee of them, you listen, you stay in touch, and next thing you know the people on the ground are the people in an office. Just my read on the "get in touch with people on the ground" sentiment. It takes a lot of work and effort to make it work long term.

The reserves don't trust anyone but their own. I'm not sure if you live in Canada, but up here you don't stay on the reserve overnight or stop on the side of the road in one. I know that sounds silly but definitely the hardest post for an RCMP officer, even one of the aboriginal decent, is on the reserve. Unless the officer is from that tribe they receive no more trust than anyone else. Maybe it stems all the way back to the Treaty signings. Maybe it's just because of the poverty that is on the reserve. The issue is more complex though than getting together a grass roots movement for change. I've seen the local reserve try that approach and continue to fail to bring real changes in attitudes, perception, and quality of life even when the money isn't the issue.

As for the trust issue itself, it'll take a long time to heal that. A lot longer than Mr. Trudeau has. Maybe I'm being pessimistic. I hope in a way I'm wrong.

Sorry, I saw the old lady picture and assumed it was the writer because of where it is placed lol. That is definitely my bad.

Yes, that is where I was coming from. If Trudeau is going to hand out nation state status to every band I think Ontario and Quebec, heck probably every province, would want in on that self determination action.

There already is supposed to be a Nation to Nation relationship

Agreed. It's not just him that needs to get it right. It's him, and the guy after him, and the guy after him...

Baby steps, but they better be good and consistent steps that lead into a real walk in the same at some point.

There is a difference between a Nation to Nation relationship, and adopting a policy that transfers all of the powers of a Nation to on the reserve. In my mind there is anyways. I think we are getting into a complexity that could take pages to fully expand out lol.

Yeah, just changing the easy to change laws that have been passed in the face of the spirit of the agreements would be a very good first step.

He won't have to make the Federal Government do anything. He does have the majority. The bureaucracy could be a different story.

Preaching to the choir. I once took offered a homeless guy a meal instead of money, which I always do if I have time, and the fast food joint tried to refuse him service. Luckily the manager was smart enough to catch the conversation, sent the cashier to the back, and served us. It's those little things that help. Not just money, pictures, or distant help. People need to help people and see the problem for themselves, cause if you're just going to give things lip service and money you will be disappointed with the results.

As for Africa, what a clusterhump. Talk about a problem everyone caused hundreds of years ago. I just hope the AU keeps strengthening. That organisation has the support of it's membership and doesn't seem scared to intervene in conflicts or against groups that the world doesn't like. If Africa could take care of it's own problems that could really help bring some stability and the economic bonuses that would bring.
