I haven' had a chance to take it to that level of OMFG yet, but I can see that happening. I had to jump around backwards on one leg while shoving a remote control up my ass just to get Pandora set up. I'll prob end up with a garmin for when I really need something that works well beyond my phone. Oh yeah, need a new phone, too.

So I am guessing you have not looked into any other aftermarket Wunderheadunitkerderpin?

The Entune model is appealing just for the text message reading feature for me.
    Wish mine did that.

I don't know if they're plug and play with my truck, but if I had a line on one I'd probably swap for that one, lame ass feature.

Sigh. So if I can't see it half the time, I guess I shouldn't care what it is doing. But the back up cam monitor is definitely nice in an urban area.

    I love mine. :anonymous:
I do want to mod it to show up on the head unit though. I'll have to try and find that thread. It's a nice spot.

I remember what coworkers say to you at work, and I would hate to hear it read aloud from a text message also.

Well I got this installed today. Couple hiccups until I figured out an odd mystery involving Toyota's addition of a couple screws to the top of the tailgate in later 2nd gens. o_O

    More later.

It presents a small challenge to the Leer XQ rear door seal, but I have a couple ideas to explore. One involves getting a replacement seal just like you see here, but reversing it to change the 1/4-inch offset. But the angle of the flap may not work, by the looks of it. Sigh.

In that case, you are required to trade your 2015 on a 3rd Gen ... IMMEDIATELY.

    Ooh, this too.

And this. EPDM Z-seal like this appied to the inside bottom of the glass should do it, even if I need to replace it every few years.

The bend not being curved was the cause of much butthurt back when it was a new design.

So was the gap on either end, because the bend is straight.

    Whiners.

Yeah, I was following a writeup that mentions this insidious stupidity. He used EPDM D seals to help avoid that. On the 2015 (or likely a bit earlier, 2012, perhaps?), they added two fucking screws that stick out of the top of the gate and make it even harder to get it on over that curve without damage. The D seals seemed way to big to make this all go together without a huge pain.

I took the whole gate off the truck to be able to see what was going on and figure out how to avoid damage. Ended up removing both screws and then I applied some very thin adhesive-backed plastic weatherstripping I had on hand for double-hung windows and applies it to the gate in a ~12 inch strip right there one I could clearly see the contact points on the radius in both directions. Worked great. I took pics, but not handy to post right now. I'll be posting an update install thread with additional pics sometime soon.

    OK, updated with pics

This is a shitty design flaw by Toyota. Aftermarket caps are a huge deal, and they should know that for this market, and they should make the tailgate straight. Nobody would notice, and nobody would fucking care. But some fuckwit industrial designer had to realize his vision and fuck us all.

Not Eric's issue. On the contrary, he should get a fucking medal. I can see how difficult and time-consuming it would be to go through prototypes to even make this work. And it's not like he has a corporate stamp mill, for fuck's sake.

I think the gate overall just feels a ton more solid, too. I shot a video of my pressing down on some of the interior braces and showing them flex. That's when I said, this isn't a tailgate. This is a crumple zone /enddiscussion.

Oh wait, I need to add EZ-down to the list....:)
