It is hard to compare the two (the stock torsional spring and the 4cyl linear spring). The torsional spring winds up then lightens up as you go through the pedal stroke (sort of like a cam action on a compound bow). The linear spring is like any linear spring, the longer in the stroke, the more resistance. So vastly different feels.

As far as the difference between the 4cyl spring and the brake return spring, no real difference that I could tell with the little bit of test driving I did. But I squat 315 for reps, leg press upwards of a grand. I mash pedals. The deciding factor was the amount of spring contact which can totally be solved by grinding down the torsional spring perch or getting a 4cyl clutch pedal if so inclined.

I have time tomorrow to dig through my bin. Will let you know if I still have an extra one. Need to check the rear diff fluid level so I'll be out in the garage anyways.

I might be turning into a horder. I do have an extra spare for the 4cyl clutch pedal spring. More than welcome to it, just need an address to send it to.

@Madjik_Man and @tomtom does the linear spring fix also fix the issue with the pedal not engaging the CC all the way? Also if it not to much of a p.i.t.a do either of you guys know alof a link to but the spring online? Thank you for any help. This is my first manual first gen I have had and this squeaky pedal is driving me bonkers! :annoyed:

It absolutely helped with the cruise control switch. That problem was essentially what pushed me to finally do this mod.

Use the part number in the above posts and search for it on camelback Toyota parts (online). I'm on my phone right now or else I'd do it for you.

Put the spring in. Wow, much stiffer than before. Very smooth though. Happy camper. Another #70 spring believer.

Just don't use the spring OP used. Use a #70 spring or one of those toyota clutch springs

If they can't find it, tell them to look it up on Hillman. That's where the guy at ace found it and got it from another store. Item no. 540210

I haven't seen it mentioned, but there are two common causes for squeaking during clutch actuation. One is the spring inside, and the other is the clutch fork inside the transmission squeaking at its pivot point. You're not going to be able to address the clutch fork squeak without pulling the transmission out.

    Dvnt,
I don't even think I know wanda get into the transmission part of it. I'm gonna replace the pedal spring and call it done.

On another note, does anyone know the size of the opening on the lower bumper on a 1995 4banger taco?

Just replaced that stupid torsional spring with the 4 cylinder clutch spring and it feels amazing. Unfortunately, getting the torsional spring out was a bit of a hassle. I was able to pry one side out, but it instantly got wedged. Needed to take out the whole clutch pedal (which wasnt that hard, I just dont have many tools..) Torsional spring popped right out. Linear spring was super easy to install once everything was back in place. Good thing I changed this when I did. I just got the truck and the brackets that held my torsional spring were completely worn down. Not to mention the guy I bought it from tried to fix the problem by ziptie-ing the torsional spring to the bracket so it moved less... Took it around the block and I too am another happy camper because of this mod.

    Thank you all.

Ok so I finally got around to this mod. I used the brake pedal return spring. As others have stated the torsion spring was a Bit*! To get out. I used a screw driver and a small spring clamp to help me out. When I pulled the oem torsion spring out all the bushings fell out and where in pieces.
20160312_103028.jpg 20160312_103058.jpgafter the install of the new spring I was cycling the cluth pedal and low and behold I here a different squeak lolo_O. So I found it out to be around the slave cylinder and the tranny bell housing or the clutch fork pivot. Has anyone had any experience with trying to solve this different squeak? I believe it has something to do with the fork. I have heard some say if that is it you have to pull the tranny. But I have seen some second gen threads that state it can be done with just pulling the boot?
Here is a finished pic with the brake pedal spring installed. I did have a head scratching moment at first trying to find the "tab" to where the spring attaches. It kinda hidden back up in there and hard to see because of how cramped you are in the area. 20160312_112248.jpg
