I forgot to mention that the last 2 codes, P0430 and P1900, were pending. I don't know the relevance of this.

I'd take it back to the dealer and see what they can do. Even though it is an 05, they may have some sort of warranty on it because it is used. Unless the truck was bought with the light on, you had no way of really knowing. Maybe they can help you out. I'd rather try that than pay for everything out of pocket. Or even try calling them and asking before you drive in.

This was a small dealer out of state. No warranties...I asked. I'll check with him and see.

Oof. Doesn't cost anything to pick up the phone and call them though. Either way hope it works out for you

Thanks, ekron. I appreciate it. This was just one guy running it. He seemed very genuine about everything. I hope he wasn't trying to scam me.

Not knowing how many miles you have on it. My 05 Basic had 89,000 and I got some codes, came to find out the catatitic converter had broken up inside. You can take a rubber hammer and hear it rattle inside when you hit it. A decent muffler shop should have an aftermarket one, to replace it at a reasonable price $200. As far as a loose or poor seal from the gas cap. You should be able to get a new one from Walmart $5. Work one code at a time then disconnect your battery to clear the others to see if they reappear, sometimes if you're lucky they won't come back. http://toyota-solutions.blogspot.com/2011/02/p043e-p043f-p0441-p0455-p2401-p2402.html Here is a used part site that might help http://www.partshotlines.com/ also new parts http://toyotaparts.bochtoyotasouth.com/

I drove it 2.5 hours home, then took my kids to the fair, drove it back home and drove it quite a bit yesterday. The CEL would have popped back on before then if that were the case, correct? From what I've read, it would have popped back on after 50 miles or so if it had just been cleared and there was still an issue.

Some codes don't show up till 3rd drive cycle. I've driven hundreds of miles before it coming on even tho there was a problem.

This is true. One of our work trucks had the code cleared by a local dealer, then didn't come on a few cycles later. We drove the truck almost 90 miles and it never came on. But after a few cycles the code was back

Well, I had the codes cleared this afternoon. I guess I will have to wait and see if it pops up again. I'm going to try to get to my buddy who's a mechanic as soon as I can. It's running fine so I'm going to try not to worry too much for the time being.

I really appreciate the help, guys!

I've been burned too! Since he can't refund your money, could he at least reimburse you for the parts? If not I'm sure maybe refund you something in good faith. If not, I'm sure there's an online site to post your concerns about his car business.

If something major comes of it I will talk to him about it. When I was looking at the truck while it was running he mentioned that the serpentine belt was squealing and had a little wear. He offered to buy one and have his mechanic put it on before I left to go back home. While on the test drive he told me to pull over at the O'Reilly's and he bought the belt. I told him I would just put it on when I got back. I texted him today and told him about the codes and he was very adamant about it having no problems driving it up from Florida where he purchased the vehicle. He may be a master con man, but like I said before, he seems very genuine and I tend to believe him.

It's still running great, but I guess I'll see what happens. Hopefully nothing major. It sure is pretty! Came with a 3" lift on Bilstiens, Toyo mudders, aftermarket FJ Cruiser wheels and a nice Alpine system. Very clean. I think he said the guy had just put new ball joints on it.
