I should note that I DO have the tonneau cover. Will be interesting to see how well I do in that 500 mile trip...

I'm assuming mine will go up too. Bought it two days ago, have about 560 miles on it now but driving from Colorado to Dallas on Monday.

I'm hoping mine goes up. My first tank was more highway than city, probably 75/25 and I was around 19. I'm just on my second tank now and it's been nothing but city driving and I'm around 16. :( This is only my second full week with it and I'm still sittin' at less than 300 miles on the odometer, so maybe I just need to get out there and drive more!

Manual calculated mpg came in at just over 24mpg.
This was the second tank of gas for this truck.
The first tank from the dealer was 22.1 from Denver to Pagosa springs but the dealer had used some gas from that tank so the starting avg. was 4.5mpg when I picked up the truck with 20 miles on it.
Having to 400+ miles range is nice.

DCSB OR 4x4 Auto. My manual calculations came out to 20.8 so the computer is close. This is probably 60% city, my last two tanks were very close being in the 21s. I'm happy with the mileage it's better than my 98 4Runner was and its not far off from my 2015 Scion tC where I averaged 28 with the same driving habits.

Seems like most people's manual calculations are coming out ~0.5 mpg higher than the trip computer...

Made my return trip from the coast in my 2016 DCSB TRD-OR (tonneau cover and stock tires) but took the highway (55MPH speed limit) instead of the interstate (70MPH speed limit) this time. Ran about 60MPH all the way back with no cruise control and the trip computer showed 22.5MPG for 113.6 miles. Ultragauge calibrated for distance and gas used gave me slightly more at 23MPG for 115.8 miles. That's about 1.5MPG better than I got in my 2012 TRD-OR.

I'm not sure what the dealer did, but I took possession with 31 miles on the odometer and a full tank of gas. During my test drive it had 25 miles so I know they didn't go far. Regardless, I was averaging ~16MPG on the display for the first quarter tank, and it didn't seem right. So I re-filled back to a full tank and started over, and I have been averaging 19.2 through a quarter tank so far under nearly identical driving conditions. I know neither of those are good sample sizes, but something had to be off the first time around. Maybe they just left the thing running for a few hours at some point.

Your indicated mpg is the actual mpg. Your calculations are incorrect

It is still early in the game to see what the long term gas mileage will be but this is my experience so far.

    '16 3.5 TRD Sport SB 4x4 MT

I live on long island which has heavy traffic. I drive 22 mi each way to work. One very heavy traffic day taking 1hr and 15m to travel the 22 miles.

First Tank: 204.8 miles travelled mpg calculated by hand is 17.5 mpg. 16.8 mpg calculated as tank average in the computer. Breaking in the truck and did not drive as aggressive as I normally would. Driven 25% at highway speeds (heavy traffic preventing me from traveling at speed during rush hour. Approximately 65%-75% of my driving is on highways). Pleased with the result.

Second Tank: 269.5 miles travelled mpg calculated by hand is 17.47 mpg. 16.9 mpg calculated as tank average in the computer. Still driving less aggressive than i normally would to break the truck in (started to push the rpms and speed a bit on this tank.) Overall was doing pretty well on mpg (closer to 18mpg) until I was stuck in the severe traffic I referred earlier in my post and the mpg came down. Same driving percentages as first tank.

I have driven 210 miles on this current tank. I have begun driving more like myself. On the aggressive side. I have noticed the engine has opened up a bit. More low end power. The gas mileage has improved. So far the computer shows 18.6mpg same driving conditions as previous posts with lighter than normal traffic one day. If hand calculations compared to computer are a trend (.6mpg higher than the computer) my current tank would be getting 19.1/19.2.

I am very pleased with the mpg I am getting so far. I am hoping the mpgs continue to improve as the engine is broken in. If they don't get better then the 18.5/19mpg i am currently getting, I would be perfectly happy with that too.

I am using the "My Cars" free app to track my mileage. I am a CPA and have checked the calculation of the mpgs from the app and note that they are accurate.

    Here we go again.
So, if every time he fill up and his actual calculation is about .5mpg higher than the computer where is the error, assuming no math errors?

error occurs while filling the gas tank. He has 3 fill ups. That's no population

That wasn't my question. I agree that there needs to some significant sample numbers but, its incorrect to say the indicated is the actual. Manual calculating is more accurate long term.

You're assuming the computer is correct in the first place. Hell, my odometer is apparently about 2% off from the factory so I wouldn't live/die by their fuel numbers. Either that or the NC DOT was drunk when they did the mile markers. I calibrated my ultra-gauge with mile markers and twice with the same fuel pump filled to the first click and end up about .5MPG better than the trip average the truck displayed.

I've said this before, I've now got 87 fill ups on my motorcycle and every single hand calculated measurement is 3-5 mpg higher than the computer. How can you explain that other than an error in the computer calculated MPG? I can't be short--filling every time as I need to make up for that at some point which would give me a low MPG tank. The pumps are checked by the county and I know from reports you are just as likely to have a pump that pumps slightly more fuel than it states as you are one that pumps less.

Every vehicle I have owned has been off in its calculations to some degree.

You make a statement that the computer is most accurate (for a few tanks it will give the most accurate impression) but have no reasoning behind it.
