Damn that sucks dude. When people ask to borrow my truck I just drive and make them pay for gas and lunch. That's what I did for others before I had my truck growing up as well. Everybody wins.

 

Definitely a good suggestion and option for the future. Thanks for the input!

 

OP, you need to get over it tough guy, that's what insurance is for. Why would you EVER lend a vehicle out if you're going to be this worked when something happens to it?

 

I really hate to see your truck get damaged but am glad the guy owned up to it and its gonna get fixed. If you knew this little guy was such a bad driver and you take pride in your truck then why on earth would you loan it to him?

 

You lend someone your vehicle you assume the risk that something may happen . It was an accident move on.

 

^^^^^^ THIS SHIT! What are bithches always losing control of keys?!?! Huge security risk and always a pain in several people's asses. My wife's terrible. Dropped a room key down an elevator shaft at midnight once, at an old place withouth card keys. Forgot to put a key in her bike pouch or some shit when doing a triathlon, had to have someone relay a spare more than 180 miles (Guerneville-Sac) to unfuck the situation while 5 people are all exhausted and starving at the end of the day. And several other random events not quite as annoying.

 

The reason why I take my keys with me where ever I go, regardless of where I go.

 

The only people that drive my truck are me and the folks I trust.

And, since my dad is 1000 miles away, it's a pretty easy short list! Nobody drives my truck. Period. This is not open to debate or discussion.

(Thankfully, most folks I know couldn't drive it anyways...it's a manual)

 

I'm trying. It just sucks seeing something that you care about get wrecked, that's all. And I lent it to him as a favor because he needed help, so I was just trying to be nice.

 

It just keeps on coming.

 

I was just trying to help and didn't think anything of it. Figured he would be more careful since it wasn't his. Oh well. Lesson learned for the future.

 

Sorry to hear about the truck OP. Glad to hear it is being taken care of. But... How do you consider someone a friend if you have no relationship outside of work? Never been to his house, or at least not enough to know what he has for fence? Finally why would you lend your truck to someone like that who is basically just an acquaintance? Sounds like you learned a lesson on this one.

I have one friend I would let borrow my truck. Known that person for a long time. Would not hold anything against the guy if he owned up to it.

As I have mentioned before and apologized for the thread being misinterpreted, I am moving on. Everything was settled and taken care of like adults. Truck going in the shop on Monday.

 

Was just trying to help and be a nice guy. He's worked with me for a few years now, and the work relationship was good so didn't think anything of it. Lesson learned the hard way for next time.

 

Getting in an accident sucks ass no matter who's fault it was. Least you didn't get backed into at the college in the middle of plain sight and have to deal with campus police! He could've totaled it, so it could be worse. Hard lesson learned, but in the end it's just a truck.

 

I had it whiwhile he had my truck and took care of it like it wasn't mine, which means with the utmost care and responsibility.

 

I'll pass on what my dad told me when I dented my tailgate and bent the winch handle on the boat trailer;

"Sh*t happens, then you die".

I laughed, he laughed, we moved on with our day.

 

That does suck. Sorry to hear that. And you are 100% right, luckily it wasn't too bad. Could have been worse.
