Just last week I was able to figure out that the source of my noise is coming from the exact same spot. Not sure how I'm gonna deal with it but I think there are two approaches. Lube, as you have done. Or making that deal tighter/stickier.

Can't the door be adjusted so that it closes a little tighter?

 

That was something I looked into early on. But striker in the door jamb is not adjustable.

 

The lubing really didn't work for me. In fact, I've not lubed anything in more than 2 weeks...since installing the tape. I'm not going to either. At this point I want to see how permanent the fix may be with the tape alone.

 

i think the reason why the tape works is the semi gloss nature which allows it to slide.

I use sil-glyde to lube the inner seal, lasts probably 3 ish months. But if i can throw some black electrical tape on the door where it meets the seal that would be awesome.

 

Could be. But the white tape I'm using looks rather matte to me, though. No matter....I'm happy with the silence.

 

I've been having this problem since I bought mine too. Definitely a problem for sure. I'd eventually like to try the tubing inside the stripping solution.

 

I was thinking the same thing. We want stickier, not slicker.

 

yeah semi gloss / matte...... ie not the super gloss high friction to rubber surface of the painted door.

 

My driver's door started to squeak and squawk like hell, so I sprayed the rubber weather strips with silicone lubricant.

Done.

 

Silicone didn't work for me. I'm about ready to spread some blackberry honey on that som'bitch.

 

I had to spray both the door and jam seals several times before the noise went away. Try lifting the rubber and getting the lube between the rubber and metal as well.

 

Did that many times...plus all other manner of lubricating all of the seals....inside, outside, both sides, on top, underneath, in between....you name it. Nothing fixed it completely and/or for very long.

My tape fix is still quiet. I will continue to post the results. And I'm at 2 1/2 weeks with no lube at all. That's my goal.... maintenance-free fix.

 

Okay so squeezing the 1/4 tubing all the way around the outer door seal did not fix the issue. Maybe the 5/8 tubing will.

 

Update: Today I bought some matte finish white vinyl at Michaels Crafts and replaced the white electrical tape I've had on for about 3 weeks now. It's a flatter finish than the tape. I will update how this is working out...though the temps are expected to warm up this week. I'll check back in about a week or so.....unless this fix does not work. Then I'll go back to the tape.




Very hard to see unless you know it's there and are very close to it.

 

Update: Went back to the tape. The matte vinyl was about 80% effective....better than doing nothing (or lubing) but not good enough for me. The tape on the other hand is more like 99% effective. As I mentioned above, I wipe out the doors and jambs after I wash the truck. So any lube that was applied a few weeks ago is long gone.

Just in case it matters....I'm using Scotch brand vinyl electrical tape, in white.
