The cap finally arrived last weekend. Great shipping box and well packed. Very good construction and well designed. It does add weight to your tailgate. I really like how it looks when it's installed. It sits lower then the stock cap and gives it a cool look. I did a little modifying myself and got the gap down to less then an 1/8". Looks really nice now..

How about some rocker panel guards?

What technique and tools did you use? Any cracking or scratching of the powder coat when doing it?

    Pics would be nice!

Just ordered a tailgate cap. I tore a gash in the factory plastic cap last weekend.

Went great. You have a good product. It took longer to remove the old plastic piece than installing the new cap.

I have an ARE hard top. It doesn't look like there would be any clearance issues. Can you confirm?

    Thanks

Two month update. Cap is still nice and solid on the gate, no issues. Love the way it makes the gate feel more solid. Probably my only complaint is it scratches very easily. This new cap inside of two months has more scratches on it then my cheap plastic cap had in a year. Not sure if the powder coating or what. Anything that slides over it will leave a scratch in it. Looks like I'm going to have to paint it a couple times a year to keep it new looking. I would think the powder coating would be a little more durable. I've powder coated things before and they never scratched this easily.

Try wiping the cap with WD40. That usually makes the scratches disappear.

Has anybody actually had a chance to test how much stiffer the cap makes the gate? Maybe even someone who had to straighten a gate then use this cap and load it up again? I tell you, i cringe when two people sit on my tailgate, its embarrassing, i mean its a damn truck.

My BIL's gate was caved in. We used brute force to straighten it back out, and put the steel cap on.

Now the two of us can sit on it after fishing and drink beer with no problem (he's 280, I'm about 210).

That's what I was looking for.

The only thing keeping me hesitant is the powder coat, I think a bed liner type coating option would be the cats ass. You know, kind of rubbery. Less scratches and less slippery when using ramps

It's a textured coating, so it's not too slippery, and my new coater makes it tough.

Installed and looks/feels great. The only thing is i put my gasket a little too far down so it shows a tiny bit. Do you get it at home depot?
