That's why I like your username. People are like, "who is this douche bag?"; then, they see it's '2016_dbag'. Oh well, I guess I should expect a comment like that from him. I say something in a nice/funny way and they get all offended.

I dont think you are wrong, I would be more inclined to think Toyota service guys did not check anything. I had one of my trucks come from dealer 2 qt low on fluid after they supposed to check level and drain and fill. So more likely they did not check, or they checked at temp too high.

UPDATE: they kept my truck over night and this morning they duplicated the problem. They found that it was low on tranny fluid from factory (no idea how low until I pick it up) so they topped it off.

Yup unfortunately a lot of Toyota dealerships are just plain idiots now just like GM, Also nothing beats low quality of truck that comes with under filled transmission from factory :)
Me and @gearcruncher kept repeating... Its low fluid level... :D

Mine is doing it as well. I'm wondering if I can just check the fluid myself. The second gen trans has a check bolt and a fill bolt. Wonder if this is the same.

Can you let us know if the jerky ness is gone after the dealer topped up the fluid?

It was .5 to .75 QTs low. It was lagging to engage in the morning and then jerked a bit into gear. I'm glad it wasn't super low. But still sucks.

Ahh gotcha. Glad you got it sorted out. I'm curious about this "surging" some are talking about and whether or not low fluid is causing that as well.

Yea all I know is that after I read this thread I remembered that my truck would kind of jerk into gear first thing in the morning. I hope the .75 QT low fluid was the problem. But to me that does not seem low enough to even worry about. I'll see tomorrow morning if it still jerks into gear.

I think I might just add .5 quart to mine and see if it changes anything. I'll bet they are all a little low.

My truck is jerking into drive as well. Is there any negative effects of driving it if the fluid is low? I probably won't be able to get it to the dealer at least until Saturday.

Longevity of the transmission. A well lubricated machine will last longer ;)

Well good to hear that they were able to replicate it. Lets see if adding the fluid rectifies the problem. Mine does the same thing as I back down the driveway.......surges a bit then jerks into gear when I put it in drive.

So, I was just down at the dealer having my trans oil checked because I get a surge or lurch reversing up my driveway. The oil level is fine and dealer tech said could not reproduce symptom.

I ran into another TW member there, and he mentioned this thread. Figured I'd get on here and share my experience.

So how do you check the transmission oil on this truck?
