Mods must not care too much about filtering the BS on these boards; there would only be about a dozen bonafide posters left...

Wellllll , the rules & CoC do address harrassment/threats/instigating/etc: & it may seem like the MODS are asleep, but trust me , they're watching...& they DO care... The language & profanity (which no one is more guilty of than me) is tolerated to a point, but I've been here long enough to see El~Jefe & the crew really clean house with bans

    some temporary, some permanently ...

It's been made clear several times that without BS the forum would be dry and slow.

The BS is welcome, and it's filtered for content according to the rules.

Fair enough. Guess I'm just used to tighter-run forums that ban idiocy almost instantly.

I'm glad it's more lenient here, because I'd not be able to tell you that I love you otherwise.

    And I do.

Agreed.... ^^^^^^^ The title should tell you that. ^^^^^^^ Have fun, lighten up, TW is great in TONS of aspects, from learning about your vehicle, getting help, watching others builds, socialization and off road meets. Bottom line is we all enjoy the Toyota Tacoma in whatever individual capacity that may be. The mods know what time it is......

This place was fairly good at self-policing until, honestly, the 3rd gen thing happened.

Technical threads generally stayed technical, especially in 1st gen, where a lot of guys are dealing with aging, high-mileage trucks. If someone started being an ass in those, they generally got called out. Most of us respect that something is always new to someone else who has just encountered it, or tried it, for the first time. If they are lucid, have done some research, and need help, this is what many people thrive for: Who can be the first to help them figure it out and fix it?

If someone posts illiterate, unclear questions and has clearly not lifted a finger to try to do a little homework first, they are going to have a rougher time. We expect that someone using a computer...actually be able to use a computer.

BS threads are for people who want to just have fun, and have either an external, personal relationship with each other, or have just hit it off online. We have had epic BS fests with folks with people from NYC, AZ, AK, and HI stretching well into the night and everyone giving each other holy hell and everyone enjoying every minute of it. Lots of inside jokes, obscure references to shit that happened years ago, you name it.

Mods don't meddle unless people who do not know each other and do not respect each other start getting into all the classic verboten topics listed in the CoC. Or, unless someone actually reports a post. Even then, they give us a chance to self-correct. Except that one guy who is a female in the Coast Guard.

@chris4x4 said it best: it's the members' site, let it evolve they way the community likes it with minimal interference. Or he said something like that. But he uses much smaller words, because that's all he has in his toolbox.

Different forums have different moods. Just like bars. You don't walk into a new bar full of strangers and start talking shit and swinging punches. You try to read the scene it first, and see if it is your kind of place. If it isn't, you should have the good judgment to get the fuck out. If you don't, don't start crying when you are bleeding out behind the dumpster.
    :)
