Owners of 2nd generation, '14, off-road model Tacoma trucks have complained about the rear leaf springs being weaker than the Sport or SR5 models of those years. Specifically, the off-road '14 models came with three springs vs. the Sport models' four springs, resulting in rear suspension bottom-out with medium loads - e.g. camper + hiking/biking gear, not heavy loads.

Has this been addressed in the 2016 Tacoma? In other words, do we still get less number of spring leafs in the rear for the Off-Road model, does anyone know?

I am asking since information on the web mentions upgrades to the leaf springs, but there are no specifics addressing the number of springs - as in this number should be at least the same for the Off-Road vs. the Sport package for the new, 3rd generation 2016 models.

    Thanks.

The 16s have 3 leafs plus a overload so a total of 4 leafs.

Thanks. Why is the overload spring so much shorter?

It is more of a helper spring so it just helps level the load and take the sag out of the tail.

the overload is made to only touch the other leafs when they are far down in the travel

So it sounds like they fixed it as the overload comes in only if needed under heavy load.
Also, if all the '16 models are the same, this is another step forward - less confusing to consumers.
    Thanks all.
