No kids but I frequently take buddies up the mountain to go mountain biking. They don't appreciate being put in the access cab. Especially the tall guys haha. Maybe the new Tundra won't suck.

I have an AirBedz thing and I love it! However, I need to shut the topper when it gets cold. Also don't want a black bear dragging me away. =)

mats, flaps, and stickers. Extang solid fold 2.0. Mobtown sliders and full skids. AVS vents
Toyota for the reliability. If your 1st gen was suitable enough to do what you needed, the 3rd gen should be as well.

    you're in the states,
get the eco diesel from dodge, so much cheaper than up here.

My uncle has one in long island, loves it. Said its the best truck hes ever owned and hes owned a lot of trucks. from GMC Dodge Ford and Tundra. Said for the price and application he needs its by far the best truck he's ever owned. Had it for two years now no problems drives from the hamptons long island to upstate NY every weekend with the dogs too.

I was looking at one for a while but the eco diesel option is almost $8000 more here and I don't want to find a new mechanic so taco it is.

He said the third gen was disappointing to drive and that was without a trailer behind it.

I'm pretty confident a 3rd Gen will tow significantly better than a 1st Gen. More hp. more torque. Longer and wider. So if your 1st Gen does OK the 3rd Gen will likely be much better. That said a full size would be superior as far as towing

The F-150 Supercrew normally only has a 5 1/2" bed - FYI. I just sold mine to get the 3rd Gen. I would say the F-150 would definitely tow better, but like you said, it is only a small amount of the time. I like my '16 a lot better around town. My Supercrew felt like a tank in comparison.

has anyone driven their 16 in the city yet? Big city I mean, NYC, LA, Miami, Chicago etc. I'm in toronto I'm wondering how it will be in the city core since I usually get stuck working downtown. Lots of underground and street parking.

If you plan on keeping it for many years get a Tacoma. 2nd gen or 3rd. I only think the domestic half tons (or larger) make sense if you're buying an old beater for dump runs because you can get them cheap, if you need the heavy duty frame and towing/payload capacity (you don't) or if you are someone who trades in their vehicles for new ones every 3-4 yrs and doesn't care about depreciation.

Go see if you can rent a fullsize for a weekend, I know the rent them here. I can't really tell if I like a vehicle unless I spend a good amount of time in it.

Thought of buying a Subaru for a 3rd vehicle, then I rented one for 2 weeks on a vacation once, couldn't wait to give it back.

Hear you on being loyal to Toyota, however...they really aren't building what I want anymore. They are straying from what they once were.

I do like Tundra's, couldn't live with the mileage though.

I have a 1st gen but I second the 2nd gen as well. 4.0 litre and you can get some with a 6 speed manual. Auto is actually pretty good. I had an 08 4 runner SR5 and that thing was pretty "grunty" haha

"GM offerings seem so inferior?" Not sure about that...most everyone that has reviewed them feels they are better than the Tacoma. Still hasn't been out long enough to tell how reliable they are, but the new Tacoma has its own problems.

when it comes to holding their value the taco trumps GM by far.
When it comes to interior I'd say GM trumps taco though.

Off road we'll have to see how the new ones do.
