Leveling kit and block question

    Hello,

    I am looking at a used tacoma. The truck has a leveling kit and 1" block in the back. Is it easy enough to buy the truck and switch out the kit and block for shocks and leaf springs for the same lift?

    I just read that a block and leveling kit are not really the best option for a lift.

    Talk to me like I'm stupid haha. I'm trying my best to catch up, but I am not mechanically inclined. I'm trying to absorb as much info as possible from this forum. Forgive me :help:

    Is it feasible from a money stand point to buy the truck knowing I am going to make the change? Is a leveling kit and a 1" block a "bad" combination or is it just not the best?

    It will work fine as long as you don't do any serious offroading with it. Otherwise you will start breaking stuff like I did haha

    Not a serious off-roader by any stretch of the imagination. The occasional trail when hunting, rough roads for public boat landings, and driving on the beach to surf fish. I will haul the occasional trailer and we may get a boat next summer.

    I think it just grinds my gears that it's not the "right" way to do it?

    How much lift do you have in the front? I think it would be a good idea to eventually upgrade to a new lift with a full leaf pack or air bags if you plan on hauling heavy stuff. You don't need do it right away, but if you have the cash then why not...

    The "right" way is going to be really expensive and massive overkill for someone who doesn't off-road. Spacers or the 5100's will be fine for what you need. Spacers *CAN* cause shocks to break/bend if you off-road HARD(jumping or bottoming out frequently), blocks CAN cause axle wrap while off-roading. Driving Miss Daisy to the grocery store with that lift isn't going to ever matter or make a difference.


    Save your money. It's not worth it for you to upgrade.
