I'm going to make a bold prediction, Mercedes 1-2 Rosberg wins, Vettel 3rd, there will be a mix from 4th to 8th including Red Bull, Force India, Williams, and Raikkonen, MacHonder 9th with Alonso getting the better position this time, Button suffers a mechanical failure and retires.

I would like to see Perez on the podium and think he might.

The inherent downforce in the Red Bull chassis helps them in the wet

The Red Bull chassis design philosiphy has always been about producing maximim downforce at the expense of ultimate top speed , which is why even through their 4 year Constrictors' run they were consistently at the bottom of the speed trap figures

They build a car to win in the medium to slow corners . In a wet race , ultimate speed doesn't matter , but being able to keep the tires in contact with the road does

I think this is Bernie's back door solution. Lower teams get new cheaper engines, lower teams start moving up the ranks, old hybrid engines redundant.

The alternative being considered is thought to be a 2.2-litre V6 twin turbo unit, the same specification currently used in IndyCar. The American-based series doesn't use hybrid systems like F1 and has just two engine suppliers, Honda - who are currently struggling with their F1 unit - and Chevrolet, owned by General Motors, in partnership with Illmor.

    From the article you posted.

Thats the ICU , plus a KERS system is what Eccelstone has been floating which is why they need to tender for an all new supply rather than just shoe horn the current Indy Car engines in

Experience of these situations tells you that it is likely that a compromise towards both of the FIA and Ecclestone’s objectives will be found, rather than F1 becoming a two-tier championship in 2017.
Additionally the FIA has set great store by placing hybrid technology at the heart of its rules going forward (as with WEC). It cannot be ‘essential’ to do that one minute, then throw the baby out with the bath water the next.
As FIA president Jean Todt told the Financial Times last Friday, “F1 is the pinnacle of motor sport, and as such, it is something of a standard-bearer for the automotive industry – it must be in line with the concerns of its time.
“(In a world) where the UN is introducing policies such as ‘Sustainable Development Goals’ and the COP21 climate change event, it would be irresponsible for motor sport to ignore this issue. Therefore, significantly greater efficiency was a crucial requirement when devising the current engine specification – as it is for the development of all new engines today.”
That’s a lot to abandon for the sake of a few million euros on an engine bill to customers.

It's almost not fair to call them 'hybrids' because of what that word conjures up in the minds of most people (Prius). The energy recovery trickery is astounding all by itself, and the fact that multiple sources are employed to produce results when the gas pedal *or* brake pedal is pressed just blows my mind. Plus the use of these technologies really is filtering down to production vehicles. I loved the screaming Matra V12's of the 60's, the blatting flat 12's, the hyper V10's, etc. etc. as much as anyone, but I think F1 is getting this one right.

I don't know, the sound of those cup GT Porsches before the race was pretty damn amazing. I miss that sound.

F1 and WEC should do a better job of selling the hybrid imsge and maybe people will get over their narrow minded Prius issue
