Thank You! tubbsisland for First hand experience!

On another note it seems pretty clear the guy is kidding about the "stance". I agree its easier to do the axles but damn if it was up to people in this thread, the "right" way to build the truck is to cage it, long travel, shock hoop, bypass, link it with coilovers and bypasses, supercharge it all at once.:sadviolin:

At least you guys tell it like it is. Most of you have much more experience in the matter than me. I came into the L/T world guns blazing telling myself "this wont be that hard" and "I can do it cheaper" but like any big car/truck project, that's just not the case if you want things done correctly. I'm not even half way through my build and I've already nearly doubled my original budget despite starting with a cheap base, feel like I have a second full-time job with the amount of time I've spent, have changed my mind/direction of my build more times than I can count, and already cant recognize the truck I started with. But even if someone had warned me what I was getting into I probably still would have done it haha. Its been challenging so far but it will be worth it in the end. The wasted money, time, and frustration is all part of the fun right?

Word. I could have had a nice Class 7100, trailer, and tow rig for how much money I have invested over the last nine years in building three different Tacomas. Live and learn.

I stand corrected, I now remember Aaron Arf is running something similar. I was thinking that wouldn't work on stock length arms.

Would it be a bad idea to make some secondary shock hoops for my truck that are pretty much completely removable? Or would they be too flexy? Plan on tieing them together with a crossbrace over the engine, which would be removable too. Thoughts?
I like having stuff maintenance friendly

No need to really. TC secondary shock hools are out of the way enough to where you wouldn't have to remove them.

So there's a SLIGHT chance that I'll be picking up either a 2" or 3.5" TC kit and I need to see what I'm getting myself into. I know that both kits require extended cv axle shafts. What I don't know is if I'll need new coilovers. I have the extended travel Kings now, will they suffice, or will I need a longer coilover? The 2" kit states that an 8" coilover works, which is what the kings are, but I haven't found anything concrete on the 3.5" kit.

I'm not planning on jumping the truck or running high speeds. I want the extra travel for crawling. I've already cut up my fenders and have no issues for cutting them up even more to make the 3.5" kit work.

    So what am I missing?

Going to need to get new coilovers, as the kits have more travel than the Coilover you have now. I'd also if you havent' already, brace the cam alignment tabs, ( either the OEMs or TC's )

That's what I was expecting to hear. The cam tabs kit from TC will be installed in the next couple weeks.

So what length coilovers are required for the 2.0" and 3.5" kits?

Not sure about the 2.0, but the 3.5 will require a 2.5 x 8" Coilover, Depending on which kit they have specific part numbers for the coilover they want you to use with it.

    *edit

If you go to camburgs website they give you the shock specs required, just click the "notes" tab.

Found the specs. Still not seeing the off the shelf coilover on anyones website. Guess I'll need to give downsouth a call to see what the TC or Camburg specific 8" travel coilover runs.

    Thanks for the help.

Its weird, when I called DSMS to order Foxes for my Camburg kit, they said they couldn't find the right configuration, after a couple minutes and mostly not caring I told them to just send me Kings. They had the specs for those right off the bat. Even though Camburg uses Fox on their website. I dunno. Im happy with Kings, just seeked funky at the time, i think its just valving? Makes no difference to me as long as they work! That was last year...

Basically any brand 2.5x8 coilover will work, depending on which you get you will have to get specific mounting plates. The swayaways are shorter overall so the mounting plate makes up for that, fox/king is a little longer so the mounting plate is shorter. If you're looking I have brand new 2.5x8 swayaways and the mounting plates im selling

    Yes
From what I experienced recently it can be a lot more than just valving specs for CO's between different brand kits and 2" or 3.5" kits. Solo and TC for example use completely different CO's for their +2 kits, TC said their CO spec is like a 6" stroke shock and if you look at their photos you can see it has a really tall lower rod end. Solo told me their kit was designed around an off the shelf 8" CO...but ...Different lower rod ends, different top hats, different lower coil seats, different length springs etc... I had a hell of a time with my Solo kit because they had not installed one yet on a 4wd so there was some trial and error involved and a few test fits and clearance tests to figure out what length lower rod end, what lower coil seat etc. Let's just say I was very happy DSM was local and got me everything I needed and got the CO's customized and back to me really quick.

Wow, yea, alot more goes into it than I ever thought. Well, I'm pretty sure DSM gave me the right stuff, so it shouldnt be an issue :).
