Just be thankful your friend didn't get hurt. Even though it will lower your value on the vehicle as it will have "an incident" listed on it you can just hope the repair shop can match that paint and not be too noticeable.

 

i too have seen customers vehicles mistreated in the hands of employees. Unfortunately, 95% of people have the mentality that its not mine, so who cares.

I have confidence in the body shop and the work they do. Should come out looking almost like new. Almost because it never will be like new anymore.

did i miss something here showing that this was completely unavoidable? like the fence jumped out in front of the driver? 'cause, shit, i'd be pretty pissed off, too, if i loaned out my truck and the driver couldn't show enough common sense to avoid doing something stupid.

 

No, you didn't miss anything. And that's what added to my frustration. It happened at his house. He knows what's there and where. In my opinion it was a lack of concentration probably. But too late now. Hopefully he learned a lesson as well.

 

I don't let anyone drive it unless very very close friend or my older brothers/sister. if someone asked me to barrow my truck, I would tell then the paper you have to sign plus gas/wear-tear fee for it. the fee is about 200 bucks.

No one borrows your stuff if you can't let go if they damage it. If you know you will feel that bad, even yo mamma shouldn't get it. If you feel so uptight about material possession when it gets damaged, volunteer to do the hauling for them. If my wife uses either of our vehicles and she damages them, everything is fine. If you can't feel the same way about a friend, don't lend it. Know your feelings ahead of time.

You used the word, "friend". Or was that a huge exaggeration? If it was me, I'd let him pay to get it fixed and move on. Probably never loan the truck out again too, twice bitten...
