Has anyone made the change themselves?

    Have pictures?

Easier to purchase from a dealer rather than have stock off road plastic ones painted I assume?

    Thanks

It should be cheaper to paint them. Call bodyshops for quotes

On 05-15s the flares are unavailable painted from dealer only bare.
    Maybe its different on 16s

Should be easy enough to paint yourself. They make factory paint kits. Probably half the price of having a shop do it.

I am not knocking you man but you are really big on saving a buck. Sometimes it is just better to pay the cost and move on without any hassles

For these kind of projects, doing it yourself really isn't difficult. Good prep and a good clear coat are the key. Since there is no blending like there could be on a large panel repair, even if the color is only matched to the code and not the exact batch, nobody will ever be able to tell because the part has a seam/separation. If you can spray paint a mailbox without drips/runs you should be fine.

On the 2015's they all had the same fender flares whether they were painted or non, so even painted ones had a texture. On the 2016 there are different part numbers for with or without paint, I believe the painted ones are smooth and the non-painted are textured. Something to consider, though it probably won't matter that much.

None come pre-painted if you order them from Toyota.

I started a thread about this back in September. I like the look of the painted fenders better than that stupid tubberware Toyota put on the offroads that's gonna turn grey after awhile.

Now this thread is on to something. I would also like to trade my black off-road unpainted fender flares for a set of painted ones from an SR, SR5, sport or limited.

My truck is black and it's an off-road, sounds like if your sport was black or my off-road was mgm we'd be in business. Sucks they aren't.

It isn't so much being cheap but being competent enough to do simple things yourself. A good search on youtube will show you small painting jobs on plastic parts like bumpers and fenders are incredibly easy to do yourself. It takes an afternoon and some planning.

I'm not asking someone to perform their own appendectomy. Its painting a peice of plastic.

I was always raised to do what you can yourself.

I also have found I can do a better job sometimes than some shops. :S
