Better yet, go sit in one. The Colorado feels cheap as fuck and looks like it was designed for the geriatrics club.

All options from GM in the way of trucks, of all models, have always felt cheap. Specifically the interiors. The dash is so bland and simple and cheesy.

So, there's one win for Toyota. The dash isn't AS cheap and cheesy looking.

The twins are the new kids on the block after having been out of the market for years so naturally they are going to get a lot of positive press. Toyota has pretty much owned the market for so long that its just old news even when introducing a newish truck. There is nothing revolutionary about the '16 Tacoma so there is nothing exciting to write about. Especially when the Colorado/Canyon is getting a diesel, the Frontier is hinting at a diesel and Ford is considering bringing back the Ranger.

Toyota essentially just "refreshed" the Tacoma to keep it the market leader and spent the rest of the money on the Prius and whatever that fuel cell car is. Sucks, but thats the way businesses run....the market for those vehicles (in the U.S. anyways) is more competitive and lucrative for them as company so thats their focus is and needs to be.

We'll see if any of the other makers concepts come to market and if they manage to put a dent in the Tacoma's sales numbers. Then, and only then are you going to see a clean sheet redesign of the Tacoma. Until then, we'll have to be content to have what we have and hope that the trucks reliability and resale value continue to hold the line.

    Disclaimer.....I love my '16

Objectively, the only areas the Taco beat the Twins are:
    -Depreciation
    -Reliability (likely)
    -Off-road capability
    -Manual transmission available with V6

Objectively, the twins are better for:
    -Efficiency (esp diesel)
    -Ride comfort
-Luxury features (in Canyon, esp Denali)
    -Towing (esp. diesel)

Appearances are subjective and not worth debating. Most truck owners skew more toward the Twins' objective merits, since they use their truck more as a commuter than an off-roader. But if you keep your vehicles for a decade, seriously off-road, or want a 6MT with a V6, then the Taco is the clear choice.

Reviews are meaningless, because you don't know if the reviewer prioritizes ride comfort over off-roading, for instance. But most individuals know where they stand on this.

Personally, I'd rather have some hybrid of the two; the Canyon's diesel and auto-4WD plus the Taco's low ownership costs and 6MT. I value all four of those nearly-equally, so I pretty much can't pick either. I'll probably just give up on the idea of a truck altogether and get a sports car or hatchback (but I'm weird in my cross-shopping).

Many of us don't need an editorial on how good the 2016 Tacoma is. We HAVE them and Know how good it is. I drove the Canyon and would not consider it in the same class.

No one who bought the 2016 needs a back pat from a magazine.

In fact the less the 2016 Tacoma is mentioned, the sooner many of you will get Invoice deals.

Both trucks are adhering to their convention business model. Toyota tends to offer less-performance in terms or power/capacity/efficiency while GM cares more about bragging rights. Look at the gen 1 Tacoma. Was less powerful than the S10 4.3 liter and Colorado V8 options but what brand do you see more of on the road today? Let the big three have their spec pissing-contests. I could care less about 4 ft/lbs more torque or 1 mpg. I want a truck to last me a decade + without major issues and I want to have a vehicle that is somewhat desirable for the used market. My 2002 Tacoma still has sparkle in the paint. It has never been garaged. If it were an S10 or Colorado the dash board would be cracked, paint faded and I would be on a 2nd motor by now. Just something to consider.

Wouldn't that make F150 or GM fullsize trucks the best then ... ?

How do sales #s help you? I contend my 94 Supra turbo 6-speed is better than ANY sports car from the 90s, and even cars today. But it sold like crap especially compared to a Rustang and Corvette.

Sales number argument is pretty lame.
