About a month ago down in Mexicali for the Dove Opener.

Can't wait for the pheasant opener in a couple weeks down in Mexico. And the duck opener is one month away down here in SoCal

Been a bit tough up here in NJ since the opener. A lot of acorns have dropped and really changed up some of the patterns. We're still in the earn a buck period and seemed to have plenty of bucks and small does around but big does are staying out of range. Did manage to stick one this past Monday but took a lot longer then expected...finally buck hunting tomorrow!

My Gf shot this doe this morning with the new crossbow we bought this year. We were very happy!

There are NO acorns anywhere around here. I saw a doe with 2 small fawns opening morning that I let walk, and haven't seen anything else since. Went to a buddy's field this evening thinking they might come in there since there aren't any acorns...still didn't see shit

The same shit everyone else has.
Jeeze. Its lousy here with deer. Lots of small bucks and ton of large doe. I havent sat in my stand yet, but just out walking in the evenings, Im seeing them everywhere. Its been super hot this past week - high 70s - and Im hoping it gets a littlecooler when I get home from vacation next week then Ill sit in my stand after work all week.

Gotta thin the does out brotha. The proper doe to buck ratio will yield big bucks. Shoot only mature does and cull bucks for a couple years, and you'll see a big difference in the size of the bucks and the increase of numbers that you see them. Then you'll only have the problem of deciding which big buck to shoot!

If you start turning the nocks on some of those flyers you may be able to get them to group with the others. Arrows are 'spensive

I tried that. They aren't flyers per se, they would still make it into the vitals at 40 yards, but I just notice the arrows that are all touching seem to be the same ones. The arrows that float to the edge of the sweet spot for whatever reason are grouse arrows. They aren't cheap, but two dozen a year is pretty cheap entertainment for me. Sometimes I go through $300 worth of ammo a month! Shooting archery is cheap in comparison.

It was pretty good size bull. They get pretty huge up here though. Usually a smaller bull around 3 years old is the best meat. Once they start getting really big and older the meat is gamy.

Best way to cook a moose steak is braze it with some cranberries and red wine. mmm so good. or moose tacos.

    In progress...
You guys are going to love this pic. 1100 pounds moose on a stock (almost) 1990 Taco. Meat is in the bed, along with our stuff.

2014-10-13 17.27.03.jpgThat was last year. Switched to bow hunting this year. Althought I managed to call a 55 inch bull at 10 yards, I could not shoot as it was facing me, head low, trying to figure what I was for a good 30 seconds. Then he bolted away. Oh well, I still got leftovers from the previous year...
