Cigarette plug mod

I've searched on the 2nd gen mods thread for power to cigarette plug anytime but can't seem to find it, can anyone post the link or suggest their own mod or is this even possible? I'm tired of having to live the ignition on to be able to charge my phone

Can't find the link right now, but just did it.

-Disconnect neg from battery term.
-remove lower dash portion.
-remove top left bolt holding in fuse box in cab
-loosen bottom left bolt on the bracket for the fuse box in cab about halfway.
-rock fuse box towards you, see behind it on top there's like 3 relays? The one in top left corner (looking at fuses, so one closest to door) is the one you want. Mine was blue.
-snake a small screwdriver in there and carefully start it out, then pull it out.
-take apart relay, exposing insides.
-cut a small zip tie and shove it under the littler rocker inside, thus holding it closed.
-put relay back together and back in.
-hook up neg batt cable. Check to see if 12v outlets are hot.
-if so, reassemble everything.


Took me like 15 mins, and that was taking relay apart twice, because I shoved the zip tie in holding relay OPEN the first time.

 

You initially thought about purchasing a Frontier before you bought the Tacoma? Or you're thinking about buying one?

 

you dont even have to do that.... simply pull the relay from the socket. Get a 2-3in piece of wire with 2 male blade connectors crimped on either end, and use it as a jumper between the two main pins of the relay socket. Boom done.

I'm trying to implement constant power to the 12V cigarette outlets in my 2014 Access cab 4x4. This is behind the accessory box. The second 7.5 A fuse from the left is the ACC fuse #4 according to the manual. Do I install a jumper here?



Under the hood. The second 50 A fuse from the top, next to the grey square, is the AM1 fuse #31 which also affects ACC. What about putting a jumper here?

 

Do NOT bypass a fuse. Its the relay you need to remove then install a jumper across pins 3 and 5 in the relay socket. Im just not sure where the relay is located because the link I had bookmarked for future mods is also dead. Im sure somebody will chime in.

 

the relays you seek are on the BACKSIDE of the fuse panel thats inside the truck.

 

Thanks for responding. Do you mean the back side of the fuse panel behind the accessory box near the steering wheel, or the one under the hood next to the battery? Sorry I'm just starting out with modding and don't want to kill myself or the truck.

 

Backside of the fuse panel in the cab. When looking at the front of the panel, it will be upper left corner.

Relay closest to the driver side mirror if that makes sense.


If you're not comfortable with throwing a jumper on it (I wasn't because I didn't know exactly which one it was like you), then pull the relay open and use something to hold the connection points together (I cut a piece out of a zip tie, some people cut an old credit card or rubber)

 

Cool, I'm going to try this tomorrow with the instructions you posted itt. I'll be using the steps mentioned in https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/05-drl-daytime-running-lights-install-oem.1475/ to take apart the dash. Thanks for your help.

 

Almost got it put back together except I unplugged the KARR alarm blue light wire, and don't know where to plug it back in! Horn starts blaring as soon as I reattach the neg terminal. Anyone know where the plug goes?

 

Anyone know where the Karr alarm box is usually installed? I've looked everywhere under there and can't find it. Really hoping I won't need to have this towed to the dealer just to plug in a wire.
