I put a deposit down on a 3rd gen today at Toyota of Kirkland, outside of Washington. I will have to wait 6-8 weeks best guess. I was asking for very specific options including JBL sound.

During the process the sales guy kept running off to get info from his manager. Finally he brought the manager out to meet me. The manager explained that he was in a recent company meeting that says the partnership between Toyota and JBL is ending, and it will become increasingly hard to fine JBL sound factory installed. Does anyone know if there any truth to this? Or have another explanation?

Thanks TW community. I've learned a lot by lurking here lately, but this is my first post.

I'm curious to see the details of this. To me sounds like a story to inflate the already high "market adjustment"

I'd agree with this. Seems like dealerships are throwing a lot of misinformation out there to push people towards options.

The dealer seemed to want me to accept a truck without JBL, not accept a higher price. I specifically mentioned I was looking for less than MSRP and he said that wouldn't be a problem.

Just like the dealer telling me DCLB had been discontinued for 2016 but they would be happy to sell me a DCSB that is on the lot as that would be my only option in DC.

I wouldn't put much Waite in that. Just like they tried to give me the insider info on the MPG being upwards of 30+. so I started a thread on it and got my head tore off.

He is obviously full of shit. JBL and Toyota have been partnered for like 20 years. Even then they have a contract for the 2016s. Its not like they just stop using JBL as they are on the line.

Lying sack of crap. But then again he is the manager of a dealership.

Well if they drop JBL at any point, it will just be replaced by another "premium" audio brand. I'll take a Bowers and Wilkins in mine. I'd also settle for a Mark Levinson.

For some reason or another, whether it be a parts issue or whatever, Toyota simply wasn't making many JBL units outside the Limited. This is why I am waiting. I could have already had my truck minus the JBL. Sounds like they were pushing a truck that was already available.

JBL trucks have always been on a limited bases. This is nothing new. Honestly, I've been thinking to my self before this thread got started, that this has to be the biggest push of the JBL system I've every seen since I've had Tacoma's(2005).

    Agreed

A quick Google search turns up nothing.
If this was really the case I feel like it'd be pretty readily available information.

For a few years, you could get a McIntosh system in a Subaru Outback. That may be one of the most unusual OEM-installed systems that I've heard of.

This is great news! Maybe they'll go with something even more tinny and flat this time around.
