    nothing cool
I grew up with friends that were always concerned with keeping the miles off of their cars. I never understood why they had vehicles but never wanted to drive them. Example being if a group (10-20) of us wanted to take a road trip to Colorado for a ski trip it was impossible to find people who would drive. All my friends hated putting "miles" on their vehicles. I use "miles" in quotes because it still drives me crazy to this day.

First off I always loved being one of the drivers. I could pull over and take breaks if needed, listen to my music, and also have a front seat with leg room. I realize I got a little off topic but my point is just drive your truck. It's not a 67 Fastback Mustang GT500 where you really need to keep it in mint condition to keep its value. No matter what you do it'll still lose value every year. Maybe it doesn't lose value to you personally. But as far as resale to an individual or trade it it will only be worth so much.

Now with that being said, I do hate door dings. I park so far away from any cars if I can.

It would definitely help you wear out your suspension faster.

Take it out, man! Go on a roadtrip! Take it down some dirt roads! That truck wants to do what it was built for!

I'm 100% OCD about my truck's maintenance... however, I'm not going to pay for a vehicle and then not use it - what's the point?

Spare the rod, spoil the child...

The brain is a legitimate concern. There are Corvettes that are now undrivable because the brains have failed and are no longer available. You cant even find them in junk yards because those brains already got bought up. ALL, and I can not stress this enough, ALL computers wear out and fail eventually. If you want to ensure your Taco is on the road in 30 years you do have to buy and properly store all onboard computers for it.

there are no aftermarket brains? I would think in this day and age there would be a universal brain component that would work with a variety of vehicles. =( that really sucks.

There probably isn't enough demand for corvette computers to cost effectively make them. I doubt you could do a universal one. I bet there will be for things like Tacomas though since there are millions of them.

When you drive, get the cats up to full temp or they'll go early. That means driving highway speeds for (anyone want to give a number of miles? - I'd say 10, as a guess) at least once a month.

I wouldn't worry about the ecu. An ecu is much more rugged than a home computer. They're meant to deal with the extreme temp differences. Plus they are simple chip programs and not dealing with viruses and updates. You still see plenty of toyota trucks from the late 80s and early 90s when the OBD1 systems starting coming out.

Now some of those new vehicles like Tesla that require wireless updates, those I would worry about longevity and security breach.

Follow the owner's manual maintenance guide. Your truck will last a very long time. Even Tacomas that are abused and not maintained well, they usually last a long time too.

I can understand if you had a rare or special/customized vehicle, or a numbers-correct pristine show car, you might be obsessive about its care and maintenance.

But washing and waxing every 30 days on a vehicle that rarely sees sunlight and gets 3800 miles a year? Wow. Are you also changing the oil every 1000 miles?
What you are doing is truly obsessive and a waste of your time and energy. It's a Toyota pickup, they are tough and well-made. They can look good and provide reliable service with much less attention. And they made hundreds of thousands of them, so maybe in 30 years parts will be hard to find, *maybe.*

    Just my $0.02
