I'd still rather it be US, but I would rather mine be built in Japan than Mexico.

Ok? I'd still rather have it be made in the US regardless of price.

gotcha. read like you were relating cost to build location. in my biz, folks want "Handbuilt in the USA", but want to pay "machine built in China" prices.

As an economics teacher, I'm genuinely curious from those of you that have mentioned it....any particular reason why you'd like to be able to say it was "built in the USA?"

From what I understand all double cabs are built in Baja. No way around it.

My 2020 taco is actually being made in Kazakhstan...by well paid, well fed, and happy workers that are actually competent.
From what I've seen it doesn't matter where or who it's made by, what matters is if the people making said object are paid a good wage (worth their salt), fed, relatively healthy, and actually take pride in their work. Perhaps we shouldn't care so much about where it is made but the conditions and people who make the product.

All of the components are sourced from the same places for both plants. Nothing is MADE at either. Just small assemblys from suppliers (DENSO, ASMO, MAHLE, VALEO, ect) are assembled in to the final product. I have been to both plants and they are both very well done. Same standards and same management. There is no difference in build or component quality. Defects just happen.

Nationalism. I'm proud to be of the USA and I personally would like to be able to say my truck was built here by other Americans who are proud of their country.... 'Merica

That has nothing to do with it. I don't doubt that Mexican workers are hard laborers and are proud of their work. My argument is if I'm paying $40,000 on a truck. I would like as much of that to stay in the country to support other American families.

Your truck was built by the Mexican population. 70% of the workers at TMMTX are Hispanic.

They're still American aren't they? You fail to realize that it has nothing to do with the race, more about the country

I'm referencing people's assumptions that because something is made in Mexico, by Mexicans, that is is somehow substandard. I've got no problem with someone wanting their money to stay in the US to support US families, sorry if you thought I was talking about your beliefs.

Nevermind. Both places are very well managed with the same quality and the same parts. :frusty:

A toyota plant is held to the same quality standards, no matter where it is.
The baja factory received a JD Power Gold Plant quality award.

I work for Toyota Manufacturing and my truck is being made in Mexico. Makes no difference to me.

"The Center for Automotive Research, a Michigan-based think tank, found that in salaries and benefits, car companies pay an average of $8 an hour for Mexican workers, while in the United States that figure would be four to seven times as high."

"For a job with 12-hour days, often including weekends, that paid about $75 a week — with $3 of that disappearing into union dues — some decided it was not worth it."

That's why I wan't my car to be made in USA, Canada, Japan, Germany, etc.
