If I were the OP I'd buy a 2015 Tacoma.

Also test out ECT mode. Shift points change and you can definitely feel the increased power.

Must be towing a lot of weight to get 13mpg. Believe what you want, but I don't trust your information. The diesel Colorado has almost double the torque of the new V6 Tacoma. If what you say about the Colorado getting 13mpg with a loaded trailer is true then I would bet money that the Tacoma would be getting a LOT less mpg with the same trailer. I have never heard of a gas engine with half the torque of a diesel get better fuel economy while towing the same weight. Doesn't sound right.

It's not right. For towing, if you are committed to only the Taco, you won't be happy with the comparison. The diesel has way more torque, way better mileage. Even Toyota's guy Mike Swears, justifies drum brakes by saying, Tacoma owners don't do a lot of towing.

If you can afford it: Colorado/Canyon diesel. You'll hardly feel that trailer behind it, especially in the mountains. the built in "jake brake" will make going downhill confidant too.

What's your real purpose here at the TW forums? Reading through your post history it's obvious you're just here to stir it up and smite the Tacoma at every opportunity. What Tacoma do you currently own or plan to buy? Besides comparisons between other brands and discussion on what the 2016 Tacoma doesn't have to offer, what other constructive advice to you have to offer us Tacoma owners?

I had a 2009 Tacoma and it was fine, no complaints at the time. I currently own a Jeep Grand Cherokee, an older Toyota Corolla and a couple of Alfa Romeos.

"comparisons between other brands and discussion on what the 2016 Tacoma doesn't have to offer" and "encouragement to keep an open mind" is basically what I have to offer. What do you have to offer?

Enough said. You're intent is crystal clear and it's understood completely you're just another troll from the GMC/Chevy forums.

So for you, the purpose of the forum, is to have everyone in agreement, to reassure everyone they made the right decision?

Nope, I'm all for any and all types of discussion, but your entire posting history is focused on this one central point and you offer nothing else.

Enough derailment of this thread. Back on topic and conversation over.

I was going to ask again what your purpose on the forum was, but you answered it for me. "your entire posting history is focused on this one central point and you offer nothing else, besides "Fan Boy worship" of the 2016 Toyota Tacoma" And I'm fine with that, to each his own...[/QUOTE]

So let's get some real facts on here. Colorado diesel has 40% more torque than the Tacoma but the Tacoma has 55% more horsepower. GM is "expecting" to surpass the fuel economy number of the 3.0l ram Eco diesel which is 21 city 29 highway 24 combined. Mind you the Duramax is a 3.5l diesel. I'll believe their claims when I see them, but even so, since they always compare the most fuel efficient model, that's roughly 21/29 compared to the Tacoma 19/24. So on average they're about 3ish mpg different. If you really want to compare also take into account that diesel is more expensive. Usually about 20-30 cents. Which is about 10-15%. So argue mpg? Sure go for it, it's too small to be an argument. Argue power? Sure if you're towing maybe you want the diesel. You get torque and sacrifice power. For a good all around truck, the Tacoma wins. Not to mention you pay a premium for the diesel platform. But you lose in resale, don't really win in efficiency and the power really comes down to your needs.

Well, we're all kind of guessing at this point, we'll see when a couple of respected publications run a towing test. But for towing, which is what OP was asking about, diesel power is way more efficient. Rear disk brakes reduce fade, that's important too when pulling a load. If you are going to the grocery store or light off roading anything is fine.

For light towing, which is what he's doing, a diesel doesn't make sense. I would love to have a diesel. I would also love a full size. But for my need it doesn't make sense. But the power ratings are known

Fair enough, if it were me, towing 3500lbs in the mountains, I'd go diesel.

This afternoon I backed my 1997 Z71 up to a loading dock and had 40 bags of winter rye seed weighing a total of 2000lbs loaded in the bed. It walked right off with it, no problem. First time in a long time I've needed to carry a payload of 2000 pounds. Long story short, I need another trailer for my Z71 and my Taco. One trailer is too big and the other trailer is too small. The point of this story is buy a 2015 Tacoma with the towing package and then you will have the best of both worlds.

Like I posted. The OP would be well served with a new 2015 Tacona.

Same here, bunch of torque available at low rpm...you really can't beat it for towing. Plus you get decent mileage out of it when not towing. May cost a little more in the end, but it would yank that 3500 lbs trailer like it was nothing.

3500 lbs once in awhile? This doesn't call for a diesel. F150 or Tacoma. I'd go with Tacoma
