new mod...solar panel on the dash board

What exactly is it supplying power to?

 

its connected to the battery...my batterys done for so instead of buying a new one, i got this panel for free.

 

what the? where from? does it work well?

 

I'm very confused You're telling us that little panel sucks up enough juice to turn over your motor?

Not trying to be a dick....but I don't believe it.

I've read reviews of these saying they don't do jack.

They're supposed to be for people who are planning on leaving their car parked for long periods of time. If your battery is going it isn't going to save you.

But something new to play with


It only pushes maybe a watt, two in the best of conditions.

One test I saw said it didn't push enough power to make it back to the battery, but IDK what brand you got

it has a negative and positive wire. the kind of wire u connect to speakers at home. i unscrewed the nuts on the positive and negative on the battery and wrapped the wires around the bolts then tightened the nuts. it just charges ur battery. he said something about 1.something amps. i really dont know but i just connected it and we'll see how it goes. it was free so whats the worse it can do

 

i figure my truck sits in a parking lot from 7am - 330 pm everyday. who knows if its gonna work.

 

It should keep the battery near a full charge state, useful on vehicles that dont get used a lot. It doesnt have the juice to turn it over, but, I dunno, it might help his battery. If the battery is goin bad it wont be long before that panel wnot help.

Working with small solar panels on 12v systems is what I do for a living... Weather stations and Eddy Covariance Flux stations.

I would guess this small panel will only provide about .1 amp with full sun. It would take a panel a little over 18" x 18" to supply a full amp (full sun, panel 90 degrees to the sun). This small panel is good for keeping a good condition fully charged battery fresh, it is not meant to charge a battery from dead to full.

 

we had those on our old dodge diesel work trucks when I was in the airforce, idk if they worked or not but our trucks always started, they were on our war reserve trucks that were used for one week every other month

 

prius's uses one like it to run a small fan to cool the interior (hot days), dunno how good it works though.

 

Since when was renting a car for a month a better alternative to replacing a car battery?
