Is there an advantage to doing that?

more than likely... I started a thread to see if most people still "break in" their engines these days..

not always about the oil. its up to the filter as well.

Regardless for the price of the oil change and how good doing one is for the longevity of the engine just do them when you feel its right.
My car says every 8000km, I still do it at 6000 when the light comes on. (warns you when you are 2000km from oil change)

I've always heard to change the oil for the first time around 1000 miles too.
Guessing this is due to the engine breaking in and clearing out all of the little metal fragments.
This wouldn't be covered under the maintenance plan would it?

You should change your oil minimum early spring and fall and of course if you drive more miles maybe a 3rd time a year. Winter/summer temps break down oil and engine so very important to change after winter, of course IMHO.

If I couldn't afford the price of gas I wouldn't be able to afford a 2016 Taco or my 5 bedroom house. Do the math

Wow, I must have missed something. My maintenance plan states I am only supposed to change the oil every 10,000 miles as it is running synthetic. I am at around 3400 miles today. I was a tech for 20 years quite a few years ago, and I have never heard of an engine going that long between oil changes. Usually 3,000 to 5,000 miles; I had used Royal Purple Synthetic in my race cars for many years. 10,000 miles seems a long time, but then again good spark plugs don't have to be changed until 100,000 miles.

In all reality, what is it going to hurt to do a $50 oil change....and have the peace of mind that if there happened to be any metal shavings, you got em out early. Just do it, and move on.

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
Depending on where you live, you want to consider changing your oil every 6mo's due to condensation inside the block.
