problems with aftermarket muffler?

i have a flowmaster super 44. i have noticed a slight decrease in power and maybe mpg?? the thing that ive noticed the most is when i am a cruising speeds at about 60mph the rpms are at about 2k.. is this normal??

 

Yup...Flowmaster mufflers are NOT made for performance- They are made for that sound you got.

The baffleing and chambers to make that good sound restrict the muffler and rob power.

 

Flowmaster = better sound, poorer performance.


Chris4x4 said it worked out to a loss of about 5HP I believe with the 40 series.


If you want a gain you can get a Dynomax Super Turbo, it has a nice deep sound but it is alot quieter. Good about a 5HP gain.

 

Do you have any dyno charts to back this up?

I'm looking at the flowmaster 40 for my truck, but I don't want to spend money on something that will decrease performance.

What is a good muffler I could swap and get some performance increase, but isn't $500?
