Steering wheel hub.

Hello everyone. I have a toyota tacoma 98 2.4L DLX. I recently got a grant steering wheel to install on my truck. but I have no idea which hub adapter would work to fit that steering wheel on my truck . Does anyone know where i can find the right one?

 

I did this a while back. You just need to get an adapter for a '94 pickup, it's the same spline count.

 

That or one from an 80 series land cruiser. I as well have gotten rid of the gross massive stock steering wheel. I used an NRG hub, with the new Gen 2 quick release and an OMP Corsica suede wheel (330mm)

 

i've been trying to look for those. but cant find a website that sells those. I even tried contacting grant services. Where did you get yours from?

 

It was a gift from my brother a couple decades ago when I got my first car. Always kept it with me ever since.

Seems like I've seen them for sale since though.

Speaking of wheels...how did you guys hook up your horns with the aftermarket wheels?

 

you could either get a steering wheel with it's own horn mechanism designed into it, or relocate to a push button off to the side.

I had this one from grant on my 76 superbeetle. the cap in the center depressed as the horn mechanism. just a single wire design. worked great.

or the relocating option is to use a simple push button of any sort that will do the job.

 

What do you do about the airbag?

 

Get rid of it. Clock spring, airbag, and cruise control will all go.

Anyone know on a second gen how to hook up the horn through the spiral cable? I found the green and white wires before the spiral cable that makes the horn go off when you connect the two wires. However, I want to use the spiral cable since my NRG quick release adapter was made for it. None of the four wires that come out of the spiral cable seem to be hot with 12v. Any ideas or links to other posts?

 

I don't think that feed is "hot". I think it's a ground. Can you trace back to the horn relay? I bet you find that it is not fed thru the clock spring/ribbon cable.

 

Well there is 12v hot wire in one of the two connectors going into the spiral cable. I would assume every control on the wheel including the horn has to go through the spiral cable so it can twist with the wheel. I'll have to post a picture.

 

Figured it out finally. The horn runs through the spiral cable. Next to the series of four wires coming off of the spiral cable which plugs into the airbag, there is another connector, which if I remember correctly went to the cruise control (hard to remember because I gave it away to a buddy when I got the aftermarket wheel). Anyway two of the three wires coming off that connector can be used to make the horn circuit. Solder them or quick connect them to your new horn button and your good to go.

 

I tryed to use a 94 toyota grant hub but the shaft was just barly to small and the splines didnt touch. any other options outhere

 

You need a hub for an 80 series land cruiser
